Women regard the Chong (Penetrating) and Ren (Conception) vessels as the sea of the meridians. These two vessels are exteriorly-interiorly related to the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian and the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian, respectively, and primarily govern menstruation. If labor or injury damages the meridians, causing deficiency in the Chong and Ren vessels, they lose the ability to control Qi and Blood, resulting in menstruation that flows continuously without stopping.
For treating women with long-term deficiency of the Blood Sea, pain in the umbilical and abdominal regions, continuous menstrual bleeding, sallow complexion, emaciation, weakness in the four limbs, and loss of appetite, use the Shizhong Huang Wan Formula:

[On Abdominal Pain During Menstruation]
[Discussion]
Menstruation is the surplus of Jing Blood. When harmonious, it arrives on schedule without being too early or too late. If Qi in the Chong and Ren vessels is deficient and invaded by Wind-Cold, Qi and vessel flow become obstructed, leading to irregular menstruation—either early or late, heavy or light. The Wind-Cold pathogen clashes with the menstrual flow, causing stiffness and rigidity in the lower back and sharp pain in the umbilical and abdominal regions during the flow.
