Discourse states: When a pregnant woman contracts cold pathogenic factors, the pathogens reside in the skin. The symptoms include sudden chills and aversion to cold, fever accompanied by chest stuffiness, headache and stiff neck, stiffness of the lower back and spine, and a floating pulse. If the pathology is at the exterior (Biao), sweating methods should be used. If the pathology is at the interior (Li), purgative methods should be used. The rationale for sweating and purging dictates that prescriptions should be mild; as long as they are not blood-breaking or fetus-damaging agents, they can be generally applied to harmonize Yin and Yang, correct exterior-interior imbalances, prevent disease transmission and deepening of pathogens, thereby avoiding danger.
