论曰妊娠日月未足，胎气未全而产者，谓之半产，盖由妊妇冲任气虚，不能滋养于胎，
胎气不固，或颠扑闪坠，致气血损动，或因热病温疟之类，皆致半产，仲景谓寒虚相搏，
此名为革，妇人则半产漏下是也。
治妊娠胎气损动，气血不调，或颠扑闪坠。因致堕胎，谓之半产，及产后气血不和。
恶滞不尽，腹中 痛，生地黄汤方

上九味，粗捣筛，每服五钱匕，水一盏半，入生姜一枣大拍碎，同煎至一盏，去滓不拘

Discourse states: When delivery occurs before the gestational months are complete and the fetal qi (vital energy) is not yet fully formed, it is called spontaneous abortion (half-production). This is generally due to deficiency of qi in the Chong and Ren vessels in the pregnant woman, which fails to nourish the fetus, leading to instability of fetal qi. Alternatively, it may result from falls, blows, sprains, or drops that damage and disturb the blood and qi, or from febrile diseases such as warm malaria. All these can lead to spontaneous abortion. Zhang Zhongjing stated: "When cold pathogen and deficiency interact, this pulse pattern is named Ge (leather pulse); in women, it manifests as spontaneous abortion and metrorrhagia."
For treating damaged and disturbed fetal qi during pregnancy, irregular blood and qi, or miscarriage caused by falls, blows, sprains, or drops—termed spontaneous abortion—as well as postpartum disharmony of blood and qi, lingering lochia, and abdominal pain, use Shengdi Huang Tang (Rehmannia Root Decoction).
Prepared Rehmanniae Radix (Sheng Gan Di Huang) [1 liang, roasted], Rhubarb (Da Huang) [lightly roasted], White Peony Root (Bai Shao), Poria (Bai Fu Ling) [black skin removed], Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Dang Gui) [sliced and stir-fried], Asarum (Xi Xin) [seedlings and leaves removed].
The above nine ingredients are coarsely crushed and sifted. Each dose consists of 5 qian bi, boiled with 1.5 zhan of water and one date-sized piece of fresh ginger (crushed). Simmer until reduced to 1 zhan, strain, and take warm at any time.
For treating shortness of breath in the chest, hypochondriac and abdominal pain, residual blood not expelled, and mental restlessness after spontaneous abortion, use Puhuang Tang (Cattail Pollen Decoction).
Cattail Pollen (Pu Huang) [1 liang], Mirabilite (Mang Xiao) [0.5 liang], Szechuan Lovage Rhizome (Chuan Xiong) [1 liang], Cinnamon Twig (Gui Zhi) [3 fen, bark removed], Peach Kernel (Tao Ren) [0.5 liang, skin and tip removed, double-kernel ones stir-fried].
The above seven ingredients are coarsely crushed and sifted. Each dose consists of 3 qian bi, boiled with 1.5 zhan of water until reduced to 0.8 zhan, strained, and taken warm at any time.
For treating excessive vaginal bleeding after spontaneous abortion, palpitations, tremors, dizziness, alternating chills and fever, and distending pain in the umbilical and abdominal regions due to deficiency, use Renshen Tang (Ginseng Decoction).
Ginseng (Ren Shen), Ophiopogon Tuber (Mai Men Dong) [heart removed, roasted], Prepared Rehmanniae Radix (Sheng Gan Di Huang) [roasted], Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Dang Gui) [sliced and stir-fried], White Peony Root (Bai Shao), Astragalus Root (Huang Qi) [cut into pieces], Poria (Bai Fu Ling) [black skin removed].
The above eight ingredients are coarsely crushed and sifted. Each dose consists of 3 qian bi, boiled with 1 zhan of water until reduced to 0.7 zhan, strained, and taken warm before meals.
For treating habitual miscarriage before full term due to insufficient blood and qi, where bleeding continues downward without stopping accompanied by empty heat, vexation, and fatigue, use Fuling San (Poria Powder).
Poria (Bai Fu Ling) [black skin removed], Ginseng (Ren Shen), Astragalus Root (Huang Qi) [thinly sliced], Acid Pomegranate Peel (Suan Shi Liu Pi) [sliced and stir-fried], Aged Tangerine Peel (Chen Ju Pi) [white pith removed, stir-fried], Licorice Root (Gan Cao) [honey-roasted, equal parts].
The above six ingredients are ground into a fine powder. Each dose consists of 2 qian bi, mixed with hot wine and taken warm; rice decoction may also be used. Take at any time.
For treating mental restlessness and fatigue after spontaneous abortion, use Ling Yang Jiao Yin (Antelope Horn Drink).
Antelope Horn Chips (Ling Yang Jiao Xie) [0.5 liang], White Peony Root (Bai Shao) [1 liang], Immature Bitter Orange (Zhi Shi) [3 fen, pulp and bran removed, stir-fried], Ginseng (Ren Shen) [1 liang], Ophiopogon Tuber (Mai Men Dong) [heart removed, roasted, 0.5 liang].
The above five ingredients are coarsely crushed and sifted. Each dose consists of 3 qian bi, boiled with 1 zhan of water until reduced to 0.7 zhan, strained, and taken warm at any time.
For treating sluggish blood and qi flow and intermittent lochia after spontaneous abortion, use Yan Hu Suo Tang (Corydalis Decoction).
Corydalis Rhizome (Yan Hu Suo), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Dang Gui) [sliced and stir-fried], White Peony Root (Bai Shao), Szechuan Lovage Rhizome (Chuan Xiong), Cinnamon Twig (Gui Zhi) [bark removed], Licorice Root (Gan Cao) [honey-roasted, each 1 liang].
The above six ingredients are coarsely crushed and sifted. Each dose consists of 3 qian bi, boiled with 1 zhan of water until reduced to 0.7 zhan, strained, and taken warm at any time.
For treating lingering lochia, qi-attack pain, clotted blood discharge, and hard masses in the umbilical and abdominal regions after spontaneous abortion, use Mang Xiao San (Mirabilite Powder).

The above seven ingredients are coarsely crushed and sifted. Each dose consists of 3 qian bi, boiled with 1 zhan of water until reduced to 0.7 zhan, strained, and taken warm at any time.
For treating continuous lochia, chest stuffiness, and shortness of breath after spontaneous abortion, use Ai Ye Yin (Mugwort Leaf Drink).
Mugwort Leaf (Ai Ye), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Dang Gui) [sliced and roasted], Ginseng (Ren Shen), Prepared Rehmanniae Radix (Sheng Gan Di Huang) [roasted], Sanguisorba Root (Di Yu), Dried Ginger (Gan Jiang) [processed], Donkey-hide Gelatin (E Jiao) [roasted until dry].
The above seven ingredients are used in equal parts. Coarsely crush and sift. Each dose consists of 3 qian bi, boiled with 1 zhan of water until reduced to 0.7 zhan, strained, and taken warm at any time.
