Commentary states: Phlegm-fluid (Tan-Yin) is a pathological condition caused by the stagnation and obstruction of the Qi mechanism, leading to the retention and accumulation of water fluids that condense and do not dissipate. This manifests as fullness and oppression in the chest, diaphragm, and epigastrium; vomiting, regurgitation, and nausea; heaviness of the body; excessive salivation; and loss of appetite. For phlegm-fluid during pregnancy, one should not exclusively use harsh agents that break down phlegm and drive out fluids. Therefore, ancient physicians stated that for phlegm-fluid in various diseases, warm herbs should be used to harmonize it.
