Discourse states: If there is no proper regimen during pregnancy, the Spleen and Stomach will be deficient. This leads to reduced appetite, an inability to circulate Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi, transform essence and micro-nutrients, and nourish the Chong (Penetrating) and Ren (Conception) vessels. Consequently, the fetal organ becomes internally weak, the fetus's vital energy is insufficient, and its biological transformation is slightly impaired. Chao Yuanfang stated that if the mother's illness is treated, the fetus will be secure; this is the principle at work. If the Spleen and Stomach are harmonious and capable of normal digestion, and if water and grain are transformed into circulating Qi and Blood, why worry about the fetus failing to grow?
