Discourse states: Where qi accumulates, it is called "Ji" (accumulation); where qi gathers, it is called "Ju" (mass). Generally speaking, "Ji" belongs to Yin; its nature is dark and latent, and when it manifests, it does not depart from its location. "Ju" belongs to Yang; its nature is floating and mobile, moving up and down without fixed retention, with pain of uncertain location. It causes shivering and aversion to cold, dietary intake fails to nourish the flesh, or there may be vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal distension and fullness, or a sensation in the epigastrium as if an inverted cup were placed there, or a sensation in the abdomen as if an arm were lying across it. These are all manifestations of Cold Hernia (Han Shan) and Accumulations/Masses (Ji Ju).
