It is stated that: When an infant suffers from Jin (Jing, trismus/jaw lock) immediately after birth and cannot suckle milk, this is caused by heat in the mother's Zang-Fu organs during pregnancy. The heat steams the fetal sac, and the pathogenic heat enters the infant's Heart and Spleen. Consequently, after birth, a heat knot forms on the tongue, resembling the size of a millet seed, preventing the infant from suckling. This condition is named "Jin".
To treat pediatric Jing (trismus). Gua Di San (Melon Seed Powder) Prescription
Gua Di (Thladiantrae Fructus, 瓜蒂) - seven pieces; Quan Xie (Scorpio, 全蝎) - one piece, slightly stir-fried; Chi Xiao Dou (Adzuki Bean, 赤小豆) - fourteen grains.
The above three herbs are pounded and sifted into a powder. Each dose consists of half a Qian Bi (a small measuring spoon equivalent to approximately 1-2 grams), mixed with rice gruel water for administration. Efficacy is indicated by vomiting. Dosage should be adjusted according to the infant's age and size.
For treating initial onset of Jing (trismus) in newborns, where the mouth cannot open and the tongue is stiff, preventing suckling.
Zhi Zhu (Spider, 蜘蛛) - one piece, feet and mouth removed, roasted until scorched and finely ground; Zhu Ru (Pig Milk, 猪乳) - half He (a traditional volume unit).
The above two ingredients are mixed: pig milk combined with spider powder. Divide into three doses and administer slowly via gavage.
For treating pediatric Jing (trismus) in newborns where the mouth cannot open.
Take half a Chi Zu Wu Gong (Red-footed Centipede, 赤足蜈蚣), remove feet, roast until scorched, and grind into powder. Mix with two He of Zhu Ru (Pig Milk, 猪乳). Divide into three or four doses for administration. The patient recovers. An alternative prescription uses Ren Ru (Human Milk, 人乳汁).
For treating pediatric Jing (trismus) where the pathology lies in the throat, feeling like a bean-sized obstruction, causing drooling and inability to suckle. Shui Yin (Mercurius, 水银) Prescription
Take Shui Yin (Mercurius, 水银) the size of a millet seed and administer to the infant. Regardless of morning or evening, once the Mercurius is swallowed and the pathological sensation subsides, recovery occurs. The dosage should be judged intuitively, not exceeding the size of a small hemp seed. For infants under one hundred days old, do not exceed the size of a small hemp seed.
For treating pediatric Jing (trismus) accompanied by body heat.
Take Zhu Li (Bamboo Sap, 竹沥) one He, warm it, and divide into three doses. The patient recovers.
Another prescription:
Take Que Shi (Sparrow Droppings, 雀屎) one piece, grind into powder, apply to the nipple, and allow the infant to suckle. The patient recovers.
Another prescription:
Take Lu Jiao Fen (Deer Antler Powder, 鹿角粉) and Da Dou Mo (Soybean Powder, 大豆末), mix small amounts of each, apply to the nipple, and allow the infant to suckle. The patient recovers.
