Discussion states: Children who have pre-existing "Gan" Qi (a pathological condition characterized by malnutrition and stagnation) present with emaciated and withered skin and flesh, internal depletion of body fluids, and heat obstruction in the Heart and Lungs, resulting in Gan Ke (Gan thirst). This is often caused by the nursing mother being careless, indulging in hot-natured foods, and indiscriminately consuming sour or salty flavors. This leads to latent heat flowing into the milk channels. When the infant suckles, heat generates within the Zang-Fu organs. The Gan heat and pathogenic heat contend with each other, causing dryness in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner), withering of body fluids, and consequently leading to irritability and thirst.
