Commentary states: The Spleen and Stomach are the officials responsible for storing and processing grain. When food and water enter the Stomach, the Spleen is primarily responsible for grinding and digesting them. The Spleen and Stomach combine and together symbolize the Element of Earth; their Qi favors warmth and dislikes cold. Therefore, if the internal organs are warm, they can digest grains and promote appetite; if the Spleen and Stomach are deficient and cold, food digestion slows down, leading to an inability to eat.
To treat pediatric cases of disharmony of Spleen and Stomach Qi resulting in inability to eat, use the formula Ren Shen Tang (Ginseng Decoction) to warm the Spleen.
