It is said: When a newborn infant has white flakes in the mouth resembling millet grains, extending to the outside of the nose, and even sores growing on the tongue, this condition is called "Goose Mouth" (E Kou). This arises from the fetus inheriting fetal toxins during gestation.
To treat the condition where a newborn has a membrane under the frenulum linguae, resembling the septum inside a pomegranate seed, connecting the underside of the tongue and causing speech impediment and limited tongue movement: Use fingernails to snap the membrane, allowing slight bleeding; this is harmless. If bleeding does not stop, burn human hair to ash, powder it, and apply it to stop the bleeding.
Treatment for Infant Goose Mouth: Take chestnut husks, boil them thickly in well water drawn at dawn (Jing Hua Shui), extract the juice, wrap cotton around the tip of a chopstick, dip it in the juice, and wipe the oral cavity. If chestnut husks are unavailable, chestnut bark may be used as a substitute.
Treatment for Infant Goose Mouth: Take roots of *Celtis sinensis* (Zhe Mu Gen), wash cleanly, and finely cut into chips (five sheng; if roots are unavailable, bow material is also suitable). Add one sheng of water, boil down to five he, remove the dregs, and further decoct to two he. Frequently wipe the teeth and mouth with this liquid until recovery.
Niuhuang San Formula for Infant Goose Mouth with inability to suckle milk: Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis, processed into 1 fen of powder). Take this single ingredient, mix evenly with Zhu Li (Bamboo Sap), and drip into the infant's mouth.
Treatment for Infant Goose Mouth with inability to nurse: Take feces of a white goose, squeeze out the juice with water, and drip into the mouth.
Another prescription: Take Semen Setariae (Shu Mi), grind with water to extract juice, and apply to wipe the affected area.
Baifan San Formula for Infant Goose Mouth accompanied by Trismus (Jin): Bai Fan (Alumen, burnt to ash) and Dan Sha (Cinnabar, ground, each 1 fen). Mix these two ingredients and grind extremely fine. Apply to the infant's tongue three times daily. First, use loose hair to wipe away debris from the tongue until clean, then apply the medicine; recovery will follow.
Treatment for Infant Goose Mouth: Wrap loose hair around a finger, rinse the area with warm water. The condition will suddenly cease within three days, which is very effective.
Treatment for Infant Goose Mouth: Take Ma Ya Xiao (Natrii Sulfas Crystallizatus), grind finely into powder. Each time, take an amount the size of a bean, apply under the tongue, three times daily.
It is said: When a newborn has swelling above the palate resembling a hanging abscess, or looking like a reed sheath filled with water, this is called "Double Tongue" (Chong She). This is caused by the Spleen and Stomach harboring heat, leading to blood stasis and congestion.
Niuhuang San Formula for Infant Double Tongue with swollen and painful gums and salivation: Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis), Long Nao (Borneolum Syntheticum), Dan Sha (Cinnabar, each 1 fen), Tai Yin Xuan Jing Shi (Selenite, 1 liang), Qian Shuang (Plumbum Subnitricum, 0.5 liang). Grind each of these five ingredients finely into powders, then mix thoroughly. Administer half a qian bi per dose. First, puncture the double tongue with a Bi Zhen (scalpel needle) to release blood, wash and wipe the mouth with salt water, then sprinkle the medicine into the mouth; this yields miraculous effects.
Another prescription: Donkey Milk and Pig Milk (each 1 he). Mix these two ingredients and decoct until reduced to two he. Give to the infant occasionally.
Another prescription: Xuan Ming Fen (Mirabilite), Tai Yin Xuan Jing Shi (Selenite, each 1 fen), Qian Shuang (Plumbum Subnitricum, 0.5 fen). Grind these three ingredients together until fine, and apply sparingly to the affected area.
Another prescription: Burn Snake Skin (She Tui Pi) to ash, grind finely, and apply a small amount to the affected area; this is effective.
Another prescription: Take Honeycomb (Lu Feng Fang), burn to ash, grind finely, mix with water, and apply inside the mouth; immediate healing occurs.
