Commentary states: Lushi (Mineral drugs, specifically lithic minerals) have a violent nature. For individuals who are emaciated and suffer from chronic diseases, it is difficult to control their effects. When they erupt, they cause stagnation and obstruction in the Zang-Fu organs. If heat manifests, it draws thirst for water; if hunger leads to eating, it results in undigested stool in diarrhea. The intake of food and water loses its proper measure, damaging the Harmonious Qi (He Qi). Dampness flows downward, attacking the waist and feet, thus triggering Hongjiaojiao (Gout/Lower limb joint swelling and pain). This causes alternating chills and fever, pain in the feet and knees, or even swelling and fullness, with muscle numbness and paralysis. Furthermore, regarding the condition of Hongjiaojiao, one must not allow pathogenic factors to become excessive. Medication should be taken regularly to dredge and unblock the Zang-Fu organs. Given the aggravating effect of Lushi, this cannot be ignored.
For treating Heat-Toxic Wind, combined with Hongjiaojiao triggered by Lushi, manifesting as unconscious heart stuffiness, slurred speech, or aphonia, use Shengma Tang (Cimicifugae Decoction):
Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), Qingzhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam, sliced, 2 liang each), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, crushed, 3 liang), Muxiang (Radix Aucklandiae), Du huo (Radix Angelicae Pubescentis, removed rhizome), Xijiao (Cornu Rhinocerotis, shaved), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae, removed forked roots), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae, removed black heart, 1.5 liang each).
The above eight herbs are coarsely pounded and sieved. Each dose consists of 5 qianbi (approx. 5-7g), boiled in 1.5 sheng (approx. 300ml) of water until reduced to 0.7 sheng. Strain the decoction, then add Hongxue (Red Snow, a type of refined sugar/salt crystal used medicinally, 1 qianbi), Zhuli (Bambusae Sap, 1 he), and Dihuangzhi (Jus Radicis Rehmanniae Recens, 1 he). Boil again until boiling. Take at any time.
For treating Hongjiaojiao triggered by Lushi, where symptoms gradually recede after taking the previous prescription, but speech is no longer slurred, yet there is dry mouth and scorched lips, headache, rapid breathing accompanied by cough, indicating that Hongjiaojiao has subsided while Lushi Qi rushes upward, take Weirui Tang (Polygonati Decoction):
Weirui (Rhizoma Polygonati Odorati, 2 liang), Wujia pi (Cortex Acanthopanacis Senticosi), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata, 1.5 liang each), Sanggenbaipi (Cortex Mori Radicis), Qini (Fructus Cnidii, removed rhizome, 2 liang each), Sheng Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis Recens, removed heart, 1 liang).
The above six herbs are sliced like hemp seeds. Each dose is 5 qianbi, boiled in 1.5 sheng of water until reduced to 0.8 sheng. Strain and take after meals, three times daily.
For those who frequently take Lushi, over-nourish themselves, and continuously consume alcohol, meat, and hot noodles, leading to Hongjiaojiao attacks, frequently take Helile Wan (Terminalia Pill):
Helilepi (Pericarpium Terminaliae Chebulae, roasted), Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, sliced and fried), Binglang (Semen Arecae, sliced, 3 liang each), Muxiang (Radix Aucklandiae, 2 liang), Damaoren (Semen Cannabis Sativae, separately ground, 3 liang), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata, 2.5 liang), Zhike (Fructus Aurantii, removed pulp and bran-fried, 2.5 liang), Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas, 3 fen).
The above eight herbs are pounded into fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Each dose is 40 pills, gradually increased to 50-60 pills, taken with warm cooked water, three times daily, ensuring regular bowel movements.
For treating Lushi-induced Hongjiaojiao, where Heat-Toxin rushes upward, causing rapid breathing and lung injury, or hematemesis and spitting blood, use Dihuang Tang (Rehmannia Decoction):
Sheng Dihuangzhi (Jus Radicis Rehmanniae Recens, 5 he), Huangming jiao (Colla Corii Asini, 1 liang), Sheng Ou zhi (Jus Rhizomatis Nelumbinis Recens, 3 he; if unavailable, use only Dihuangzhi).
The above three ingredients: first, gently boil the Dihuangzhi until the Jiao is completely dissolved. Pour into a porcelain vessel, add the Ou zhi, stir well, divide into two doses, and take at any time.
For treating intense heat caused by Lushi eruption, or persistent hematemesis and spitting blood, use Jiangmo Jian (Ginger-Ink Decoction):
Shengjiang zhi (Jus Zingiberis Recens, 1 he), Mo (Lapis Cinereus, ground, 1 qian), Mi (Melle, 1 he).
Mix the above three ingredients evenly and sip slowly.
For long-term consumption of Zhongru (Stalactite) and other mineral drugs, resulting in excessive internal heat, compounded by excessive alcohol and noodle intake, causing Hongjiaojiao congestion rushing upward, chest oppression, incessant thirst and drinking, rapid panting, shortness of speech, throat pain and stiffness, use Shengma Tang (Cimicifugae Decoction):
Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae, 2 liang), Xijiao (Cornu Rhinocerotis, shaved, 4 liang), Xuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae, 1.5 liang), Muxiang (Radix Aucklandiae, 2 liang), Weirui (Rhizoma Polygonati Odorati, sliced and roasted, 5 liang), Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis, removed heart and roasted, 6 liang), Shegan (Rhizoma Belamcandae, 3 liang), Gualou (Fructus Trichosanthis, 6 liang), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae, removed black heart, 4 liang each).
The above ten herbs are sliced like hemp seeds. Each dose is 5 qianbi, with a piece of fresh ginger (size of a date) smashed, soaked in 2 sheng of water overnight. Boil at dawn until reduced to 1 sheng. Strain and take warm. If Qi stagnation is present, add 0.5 qianbi of Binglang powder to each dose.
For Hongjiaojiao triggered by taking Lushi, manifesting as aversion to cold with high fever, headache, heart oppression, eye pain, nausea with desire to vomit, dizziness and brain pain, requiring mild sweating, use Chaihu Tang (Bupleuri Decoction):
Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri, removed seedlings, 1.1 liang), Gegen (Radix Puerariae, sliced, 2 liang), Baifuling (Poria, removed black skin), Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis, removed heart and roasted), Mahuang (Herba Ephedrae, removed roots and joints, 1.5 liang each), Gui (Ramulus Cinnamomi, removed coarse bark, 0.3 liang), Weirui (Rhizoma Polygonati Odorati, sliced and roasted, 2 liang), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae, removed black heart, 1 liang).
The above eight herbs are coarsely pounded and sieved. Each dose is 5 qianbi, boiled in 1.5 sheng of water until reduced to 0.8 sheng. Strain and take warm after meals. Cover with clothing and blankets to induce mild sweating. Sweating should not be excessive.
For heat and oppression after taking Lushi, Hongjiaojiao eruption, rebellious Qi failing to descend, loss of taste for food, use Maidong Tang (Ophiopogonis Decoction):
Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis, removed heart and roasted), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata, 2 liang each), Baifuling (Poria, removed black skin), Gualougen (Radix Trichosanthis, 3 liang each).
The above four herbs are coarsely pounded and sieved. Each dose is 5 qianbi, with a piece of fresh ginger (size of a date) smashed, boiled in 1.5 sheng of water until reduced to 0.8 sheng. Strain and take warm, three times daily.
For Lushi-triggered Hongjiaojiao, accompanied by upper body asthma, rapid breathing, cough, and astringent urination. After taking diuretics, urination remains difficult, but defecation becomes loose, use Tingli Wan (Descurainiae Pill):
Tingli (Semen Descurainiae, stir-fried on paper), Fangji (Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata, 2 liang each), Xingren (Semen Pruni Armeniacae, peeled, de-seeded, double-kernel, roasted, separately ground, 2.5 liang each), Beimu (Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae, removed heart, 1.5 liang).
The above five herbs: pound the four non-almond herbs into powder, mix evenly with the almond. Form pills with jujube flesh, sized like Sophora seeds. Each dose is 30 pills, taken with a decoction of jujube and Sanggenbaipi. If unrelieved, take again.
For Jinshi (Metal and Stone/Mineral) toxicity causing Hongjiaojiao, use Congbai Tang (Scallion White Decoction):
Congbai (Scallion White, sliced, 7 stalks), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata, 2 liang), Chenju pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, white part removed and roasted, 1.5 liang), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, sliced, 1 liang).
The above four herbs are sliced like hemp seeds. Boil in 5 sheng of water until reduced to 3 sheng. Strain and divide into three warm doses.
For those who habitually take Lushi, and due to consuming alcohol, meat, and hot noodles, trigger Hongjiaojiao rushing to the heart, causing heat, oppression, and abdominal pain, use Xijiao Tang (Rhinoceros Horn Decoction):
Xijiao (Cornu Rhinocerotis, shaved, 2 liang), Mutong (Caulis Akebiae, sliced, 3 liang), Muxiang (Radix Aucklandiae, 2 liang), Heidou (Semen Sojae Nigrum, 2 he), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata, 2 liang), Liapi Dafupi (Pericarpium Arecae Cum Cortice, 2 liang).
The above six herbs are coarsely pounded and sieved. Each dose is 5 qianbi, boiled in 1.5 sheng of water until reduced to 0.8 sheng. Strain, add 3 qianbi of Hongxue, stir well, and take warm at any time. The goal is to achieve unblocking and purging shortly after ingestion.
