Commentary states: The pathogenic factors of water and fire should be guided according to their nature. When mistakenly injured by boiling water or fire, the toxic heat is intense; it is appropriate to unblock and drain the qi. If one only seeks to relieve immediate pain and hastily applies cold substances for washing or compressing, the heat toxin will fear the cold and retreat inward, leading to complications such as bone rotting and tendon injury. This is not the inherent nature of the heat pathogen. Injuries from boiling water or fire are originally not diseases arising from internal disturbances of qi and blood; therefore, treatment does not rely solely on decoctions (Tangye, herbal decoctions). Special emphasis is placed on external applications, ointments, and baths, focusing exclusively on treating the exterior.
