It is stated that the failure of teeth to grow is caused by various diseases such as wind-related caries (wind-gum disease) and dental caries, leading to tooth loss, after which they fail to regrow over time. The Kidney governs bones; teeth are the culmination of bones and are nourished by marrow. When a person's Qi and Blood are strong and marrow is solid, even if teeth fall out, they will certainly regrow. However, if Qi and Blood are weak and marrow is deficient, teeth cannot regenerate. The *Neijing* states that at age eight, men experience an abundance of Kidney Qi, resulting in the replacement of teeth and growth of hair; by age sixty-four (eight times eight), teeth and hair fall out. This refers to the aforementioned phenomenon. The treatment method should focus on filling the marrow and nourishing Kidney Qi, so that teeth may regrow.
**Xiongci San Formula for Treating Failure of Teeth to Grow in Adults and Children:**
Rooster droppings (14 pellets), Hen droppings (14 pellets).
The above two ingredients are dried by roasting, ground together into a powder, and a small amount of Moschus (Musk) is added. First, use a needle to prick the area below the damaged tooth root until blood appears, then apply the powder. For older individuals, it takes no more than twenty days; for younger individuals, ten days. It works regardless of whether the tooth was injured or fell out naturally.
**Lufengfang San Formula for Treating Failure of Teeth to Grow:**
Vespa nest (roasted until yellow), Schizonepetae Herba (Jingjie), Cortex Lycii (Digupi), Pinus node (Suojie, chopped), Zanthoxyli Fructus (Chuanjiao, remove eyes and closed ones, lightly stir-fried to remove moisture), Qingyan (Green Salt), Alum (Baifan), Ash (Hui) (each 1 liang).
The above seven ingredients are crushed, sieved, and made into a powder. Each time, take half a "qian bi" (a spoon-like measure), wrap it in cotton, and bite it against the affected area. Spit out any saliva produced; recovery is immediate.

Take four jin of Rehmanniae Radix (Dihuang) harvested in the eighth month, wash off the soil, and squeeze out two large cups of juice. Immediately add the separately ground medicine and stir well. Store in a porcelain vessel. Each time, wrap one end of a willow branch with cotton, dip it in the medicine, heat it, and cauterize the gaps at the tooth roots. Apply a small amount of ointment afterwards for efficacy.
