Discourse states: The *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) mentions that the human body is not cold due to insufficient clothing, nor is there external cold qi within. Why does cold arise from within? This is because the person has much Bi Qi (pathogenic factor causing obstruction of meridians and qi-blood). With deficient Yang qi and excessive Yin qi, the body feels cold as if emerging from water. Deficiency of Yang generates external cold; excess of Yin generates internal cold. When the Yin and Yang in the human body are imbalanced, cold and heat arise spontaneously, without necessarily being caused by external pathogenic factors. In cases of internal cold due to Bi Qi, it is because qi obstruction prevents blood from circulating normally, and Yang deficiency allows Yin to prevail naturally. Blood coagulates and becomes stagnant, and the vessels become blocked; thus, the symptom is a sensation of bodily coldness as if emerging from water.
