Commentary states: When Wind, Cold, and Dampness pathogens contend within the Qi and Blood, failing to circulate freely, true Qi and evil pathogens strike each other, causing pain throughout the muscles. Some present as Skin Bi (numbness and obstruction in the skin), while severe cases see pathogens penetrating deeply into the Yang meridians. The Yang Qi moves slowly and fails to nourish the sinews, resulting in flaccidity of the joints and inability of the sinews and vessels to contract and hold, thereby causing the body and limbs to become unresponsive.
