Discussion states: When insects enter the ear, there are various species. Ancient prescriptions either irrigate the ear with medicinal liquids or guide them out with objects, relying on intent to expel them. Among these, donkey milk and cow butter are considered the most effective methods. For insects entering the ear, irrigation causes them to liquefy; if they have entered the abdomen, continuous administration of several doses will lead to recovery.
Prescription for Immediate Verification (Li Yan San) for Scutigera coleoptrata (centipede-like insect) Entering the Ear
Ligusticum chuanxiong (Chuanxiong), Pinellia ternata (Tian Nan Xing, processed), Angelica dahurica (Baizhi), Stercorio Noctuidis (Ye Ming Sha, stir-fried), Gleditsia sinensis (Zhu Ya Zao Jia, roasted, each 3 fen), Bai Ding Xiang, Stemona sessilifolia (Bubai), Veratrum nigrum (Lilu, each 4 qian), Aconitum kusnezoffii (Cao Wu Tou, 0.5 liang), Meliosma fargesii (Hai Jin Sha, 1 fen), Realgar (Pi Shuang, separately ground), Piper longum (Bi Bo, each 2 qian).
The above twelve ingredients are crushed, sifted into a powder, mixed uniformly with Pi Shuang, and finally adjusted in color with Lead Oxide (Qian Dan) when needed. Store in a porcelain container. If a centipede-like insect enters the ear, take a small amount of powder, dissolve it with one liang of vinegar, dip a fine feather into the mixture, insert it into the ear canal, and gently blow to disperse the medicinal vapor. The insect will exit immediately. Do not use too much medicine, as excessive amounts may cause the insect to liquefy without exiting. For scorpion stings, apply a little vinegar first, then rub in approximately "half zi" amount of powder until heat penetrates thoroughly for efficacy.
