Commentary states: Mu Nong Lou (Ocular Purulent Discharge) arises from blood vessels being congested with heat, which transmits to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. The meridian of the Bladder originates at the inner canthus of the eye, thus causing swelling and itching of the eyelids. Over time, sores form, and purulent discharge flows continuously without cessation, resembling liquid leaking from a vessel; hence it is called "Nong Lou" (Purulent Leakage). If untreated, the purulent toxin will erode the clear ocular tissues, perforate the Bai Jing (Sclera/Bulbar Conjunctiva), and cause black spots on the Hei Dian (Cornea) to connect, making treatment difficult.
For treating Wind-Toxicity attacking upward to the eye wheel, resulting in eyelid erosion, ulceration, growth of neoplasms or pterygium, and foul odor of the eyes, if not treated, vision will be lost. Lingyang Jiao Wan (Antelope Horn Pill) Formula:
