It is said that when the Stomach Qi is full, heat is generated. Heat causes the Earth Qi (Spleen and Stomach Qi) to become dry internally, and the flow of Body Fluids (Jin Ye) becomes obstructed. This leads to irritability and fullness in the throat and diaphragm, resulting in thirst and a desire to drink. The *Nei Jing* states: "When the Spleen Qi has heat, the Stomach becomes dry and there is thirst." This is because the True Yin of the Zang organs moistens the Spleen, and the Spleen, harmonizing with the Stomach, transports its fluids. Once the Spleen is affected by heat, the fluids cannot moisten the Stomach. When the Stomach becomes dry, the thirst will not cease.
