It is stated that the Qi of the Heart connects with the tongue, and the Spleen meridian runs alongside the pharynx to connect with the root of the tongue, spreading beneath it. When the Heart and Spleen meridians are invaded by Wind pathogen (Feng Xie), the root of the tongue becomes stiff, unable to roll or extend freely. If Heat pathogen (Re) is added, swelling occurs; this swelling causes distension and tension in the sinews and vessels, extending to the pharynx, obstructing respiration. The appropriate treatment method involves acupuncture to drain bad blood, followed by herbal medication to treat tongue swelling and stiffness. Bai Fu Ling Tang (White Poria Decoction)
