Discourse states: Chong She (Double Tongue) is caused by latent heat accumulating in the Heart and Spleen meridians, ascending along the channels to strike the root of the tongue. This causes the blood vessels under the tongue to swell and protrude, resembling a small tongue, hence the name "Chong She." This is because the Heart opens into the tongue; the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian belongs to the Spleen and connects with the Stomach, ascends through the diaphragm, flanks the pharynx, connects with the root of the tongue, and spreads beneath it.
Hong Xue Decoction (Red Snow Decoction) for treating heat in the Heart and Spleen causing Chong She:
Tigris Cornu (Antelope Horn), 1 liang; Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), 1 liang; Wulan (Isatidis Folium or similar bitter herb), 1 liang; Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, black heart removed), 1 liang; Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), 1 liang; Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), 1 liang; Daqing (Indigo Naturalis), 1 liang; Dan Zhuye (Lophatheri Herba, cut), 1 liang; Binglang (Arecae Semen, powdered), 0.5 liang; Su Fangmu (Dalbergiae Odoriferae Lignum, pounded and decocted separately), 0.5 liang; Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), 2 liang.
Of the above twenty ingredients, excluding Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Su Fangmu, Dansha (Cinnabar), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Shexiang (Moschus), and Binglang, chop the remaining herbs to the size of hemp seeds. Decoct in 2.5 dou (approx. 5 liters) of water until reduced to 9 sheng (approx. 1.8 liters). Strain and remove dregs, then boil again. Add Puxiao and stir continuously with a willow branch. When the liquid is nearly evaporated, add the juice of Su Fangmu. Boil for three to five boils. Pour into a new clay pot. Add powders of Muxiang, Binglang, Shexiang, and Dansha, and mix well. Take 1 qianbi (approx. 3-5 grams) wrapped in cotton, allowing it to dissolve and swallow the saliva. For severe cases, take 1 qianbi mixed with honey water after meals.
Shigao Decoction (Gypsum Decoction) for treating accumulated heat in the Heart and Spleen causing Chong She, epidemic Yin Jaundice, and all heat toxins triggered by Danchi (mineral drugs):
Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), 1 jin; Ningshuishi (Alumen), 1 jin; Huashi (Talcum), 1 jin (all crushed); Yujin (Curcumae Radix, ground); Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, shaved), 1 liang each; Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, black heart removed), 5 liang; Shanzhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, skin removed), 2 liang; Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), 3 liang; Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, roots removed), 3 liang; Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, ground), 1 jin; Mayaxiao (Mirabilite, ground), 0.5 liang.
Of the above eleven ingredients, first decoct Shigao, Ningshuishi, and Huashi in 3 dou (approx. 6 liters) of water with 10 liang of gold (or 10 liang of silver if gold is unavailable) until reduced to 1.5 dou (approx. 3 liters) and clarified. Then add Xijiao, Yujin, and other herbal medicines. Decoct until reduced to 7 sheng (approx. 1.4 liters). Strain and remove dregs, then decoct again. First add Mangxiao, boil for two or three boils, then add Mayaxiao. Stir constantly until dissolved. Store in a new earthenware vessel for one or two days until it solidifies. Take 1 qianbi mixed with honey water. Dosage for adults and children should be adjusted according to condition.
Niuhuang San (Calculus Bovis Powder) for treating Chong She:
Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, ground), 0.5 liang; Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), 0.5 liang; Baifuling (Poria, black skin removed), 3 fen; Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, chopped and fried), 0.5 liang; Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, chopped and dried), 1 fen; Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), 0.5 liang; Dansha (Cinnabar, ground), 1 fen; Shexiang (Moschus, ground), 0.5 liang.
Grind the above eight ingredients into a fine powder. Take 0.5 qianbi mixed with warm water. For severe cases, increase to 1 qianbi. Take after meals.

Chop five ingredients to the size of hemp seeds. Add the two ground ingredients. Decoct in 3 sheng (approx. 0.6 liters) of fresh well-water in a cauldron until reduced to about 0.5 sheng. Strain and clarify. Pour the liquid into a porcelain bottle. Seal the mouth tightly with salt mud. Simmer over low heat for one shichen (2 hours). Remove from fire and cool. Place the bottle in water without submerging the neck. Soak overnight. Break the bottle the next day. Retrieve the golden-colored substance, grind into a fine powder. Take 0.5 qianbi mixed with cold water. Alternatively, wrap in cotton and swallow with saliva.
Huangyao Tang (Yellow Herb Decoction) for treating swollen tongue and Chong She:
Huangyao (likely referring to a specific yellow herb, possibly Curcuma or similar), 1 liang; Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried and chopped), 1 liang.
