Discourse states: Various parasites within the human body, if the zang-fu organs are in a state of harmony and balance, will remain tranquil in their places. However, if the qi of the viscera is deficient, or due to excessive consumption of rich and sweet foods, causing the various parasites in the intestines and stomach to become agitated. These parasites move back and forth, attacking upwards into the heart collaterals, resulting in heart pain. This pain is intermittent, accompanied by heat in the abdomen and a tendency to salivate excessively; this is known as Ascaris heart pain (Hui Xin Tong). It should be treated promptly. If left untreated, the parasites may penetrate the heart, leading to death.
