Commentary states: The Kidney governs the bones; therefore, when Kidney Qi is exhausted, physical strength becomes weak. The Heart houses the Spirit (Shen); thus, when Heart Blood is deficient, forgetfulness occurs frequently. To enhance physical strength and benefit the will (Yi), one must tonify the Heart and Kidney. When the Heart and Kidney receive adequate nourishment, physical strength will become robust, and the will will be strengthened. When the functions of the Heart and Kidney coordinate, and Water and Fire mutually assist each other, essence (Jing) will be complete and spirit (Shen) vigorous, allowing free flow throughout the body. How much more so would this apply to enhancing physical strength and benefiting the will?
