Discourse states: When both the Kidney and Bladder are deficient, if their Qi is excessive and surplus, it leads to disease in the Small Intestine. Therefore, when these two meridians are both deficient, Cold Evil (pathogenic cold) takes advantage of this deficiency to invade. If left untreated for a long time, it transmits into diseases of the Small Intestine. The method of tonifying deficiency must focus on eliminating the Cold Evil between the Kidneys and maintaining constant warmth; this is likely the reason. Thus, in the current treatment of tonifying deficiency, herbs for treating the Small Intestine are also incorporated.
