The *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) states that all sores and ulcers belong to the Heart, and all dampness-induced swellings belong to the Spleen. This is because the Heart governs Blood, and the Spleen governs Flesh/Muscle. Due to constitutional deficiency leading to invasion by Wind-Damp pathogens, and pathogenic toxins affecting the interior, the following formulas treat all malignant sores that have persisted without healing.
**Shexiang San (Musk Powder)**
*Musk* (Dangmenzi: two units), *Caryophylli Flos* (Dingxiang), *Aucklandiae Radix* (Muxiang), *Pterocarpi Santalinus Lignum* (Zitanxiang) (each one fen), *Boswelliae Resina* (Ruxiang), *Myrrhae Resina* (Moyao) (each half liang).
Crush and grind the above six herbs into a powder. Mix with egg white inside an eggshell, steam over wine until cooked, dry in the sun, and grind again. Divide into six doses. Each dose is taken mixed with clear tea brewed from wax tea leaves.
**Zaojia Ci San (Gleditsia Sinensis Thorn Powder)**
*Treatment for malignant sores.*
*Gleditsiae Spina* (Zaojia ci) (one liang), *Boswelliae Resina* (Ruxiang) (one fen).
Crush and grind the above two herbs into a powder. Take two qianbi per dose. Decoct in one zhan of wine for one boil and take orally. Taking it mixed with hot wine is also acceptable.
**Ruxiang San (Boswellia Powder)**
*Treatment for long-standing malignant sores.*
*Boswelliae Resina* (Ruxiang), *Calomelas* (Nifen) (each half qian), *Musk* (Shexiang) (one zi), *Os Draconis* (Longgu), *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Dahuang) (cut), *Phellodendri Cortex* (Huangbai) (scraped of rough bark, each three qian).
Crush and grind the above six herbs into a powder. First wash the sore with bitter bamboo sap, then sprinkle the powder on the sore and apply.
**Longkui San (Solanum Lycobernum Powder)**
*Treatment for various malignant sores discharging pus and fluid that do not dry up.*
*Solanum lyratum* (Longkui; common name Tianqiezi), *Sedum aizoon* (Jingtian; common name Shenhuocao), *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian) (remove roots), *Calvaria Humana* (Tianlinggai) (each one liang), *Os Draconis* (Longgu), *Boswelliae Resina* (Ruxiang), *Semen Momordicae* (Mubiezi), *Flos Hibisci Mutabilis* (Huangshukuihua) (each half liang).
Crush and grind the above eight herbs into a powder. Depending on the size of the sore, add a small amount of Calomelas, mix with honey, spread on paper, and apply.
**Dasan Bone Powder**
*Treatment for unnamed malignant toxic sores resembling fish eyes.*
*Bone of Otter* (Dasan gu) (freshly ground to powder, one liang), *Musk* (Shexiang) (one zi).
Grind the above two herbs finely and mix evenly. Apply using saliva as a binder.
**Wushe Gao (Black Snake Ointment)**
*Treatment for malignant sores, promoting new flesh growth, removing pus, and reducing swelling caused by Wind-toxic qi.*
*Serpentis Elapoidis Corium* (Wushe) (skin and bones removed, roasted and ground to powder, two liang), *Sesami Oleum* (Mayou) (one jin), *Minii Preparatio* (Qiandan) (two liang), *Mus* (one mouse, preferably from the twelfth lunar month), *Cera Flava* (La) (four liang).
First, fry the mouse in the oil until dissolved and remove the dregs. Then add Minii Preparatio and Black Snake powder. Simmer over low heat until boiling, add wax, and simmer ten more boils. Store the ointment in a porcelain vessel. Apply to cover the sore, changing once daily.
**Jinbai San (Golden Phellodendrum Powder)**
*Treatment for all malignant sores.*
*Phellodendri Cortex* (Huangbai) (scraped of rough bark), *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian) (remove roots), *Bletillae Rhizoma* (Baiji), *Galla Chinensis* (Wubeizi) (each one fen), *Calomelas* (Nifen) (two qianbi), *Musk* (Shexiang) (half zi).
Crush and grind the above six herbs into a powder. Mix with cold water and apply to the sore. Cover with paper flowers.
**Miduoseng San (Lead Monoxide Powder)**
*Treatment for all malignant sores.*
*Plumbi Monoxidum* (Miduoseng), *Eriocauli Flos* (Gujingcao) (each one fen), *Realgar* (Xionghuang) (half liang).
Crush and grind the above three herbs into a powder. Sprinkle a small amount directly onto the dry sore.
**Wutou San (Aconite Powder)**
*Treatment for malignant sores.*
*Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata* (Wutou) (one piece, cracked by processing, skin and tip removed, ground to powder), *Calomelas* (Nifen) (two qianbi).
Grind the above two herbs evenly. Wash the sore several times with plain boiled water, then several times with salt water. Mix the medicine with saliva to form a paste and apply to the sore.
**Binglang Huangkui San (Areca Seed and Hibiscus Powder)**
*Treatment for malignant sores that persist without healing.*
*Arecae Semen* (Binglang) (one raw seed), *Aucklandiae Radix* (Muxiang), *Flos Hibisci Mutabilis* (Huangshukuihua), *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian) (remove roots).
Weigh the Areca seed. Use equal amounts of the other herbs. Crush and sieve into a fine powder. Wash the sore clean with warm rice water. Add a small amount of Calomelas, mix with honey, apply to old cloth, and dress the wound. Change every two to three days.
**Niujiao San (Ox Horn Powder)**
*Treatment for long-standing malignant sores that do not heal.*
*Nigris Bubali Cornu* (Huangniujiao) (one fen, burned to ash), *Cervi Cornu Degelatinatum* (Mijiaoxie) (one fen), *Ampelopsis Radix* (Bailian) (one fen, roasted until slightly yellow), *Musk* (Shexiang) (half fen, finely ground), *Plumbi Monoxidum* (Miduoseng) (half fen), *Psoraleae Fructus* (Lingpi) (one liang).
Crush and sieve the above eleven herbs into a fine powder. Take two qianbi per dose, mixed with warm wine. Take on an empty stomach before meals.
**Chixiaodou San (Red Bean Powder)**
*Treatment for unrecognized malignant sores persisting for years.*
*Phaseoli Volubilis Semen* (Chixiaodou) (roasted熟), *Oryza Sativa Glutinosa Semen* (Nuomi) (lightly roasted), *Evodiae Fructus* (Wuzhuyu) (roasted熟), *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian) (remove roots), *Phellodendri Cortex* (Huangbai) (cut), *Zingiberis Rhizoma Aridus* (Ganjiang), *Cnidii Fructus* (Shechuangzi) (all cut, half liang each).
Crush and sieve the above seven herbs into a fine powder. Mix with raw sesame oil to form a paste similar to facial cream. First decoct Sophora branch water to wash the sore clean, then apply the medicine. Change twice daily.
**Fenxiang San (Powdered Musk and Fragrance Powder)**
*Treatment for malignant sores.*
*Calomelas* (Nifen) (two qianbi), *Boswelliae Resina* (Ruxiang) (one qian), *Allii Fistulosi Bulbus* (Cong) (one root, baked熟, remove scorched skin).
Grind the above three herbs together into a paste. Spread on silk and apply to the sore. Change every three days.
**Jinhuang San (Golden Yellow Powder)**
*Treatment for malignant sores.*
*Phellodendri Cortex* (Huangbai) (one liang), *Mellis Florum* (Mi) (two liang; coat Huangbai with honey and roast until honey is absorbed).
Crush and sieve the above two herbs into a powder. Add half zi of Musk, grind evenly and finely, and sprinkle dry onto the sore.
**Tongsheng San (Universal Salvation Powder)**
*Treatment for various malignant sores.*
*Eriocauli Flos* (Gujingcao) (stir-fried), *Arisaematis Tuber* (Tiannanxing) (processed), *Cyperi Rhizoma* (Guanzhong) (stir-fried), *Phellodendri Cortex* (Huangbai) (roasted, each one fen), *Musk* (Shexiang) (half qian).
Crush and grind the above five herbs into a powder. Sprinkle a small amount dry onto the sore.
**Cunjin San (Inch Gold Powder)**
*Treatment for malignant sores unresponsive to previous treatments.*
*Testudinis Oviputa* (Jiziqiao) (ten raw, unfertilized eggshells), *Arecae Semen* (Binglang) (one piece), *Musk* (Shexiang) (ground), *Calomelas* (Nifen) (each half qian), *Phellodendri Cortex* (Huangbai) (scraped of rough bark), *Plumbi Monoxidum* (Miduoseng) (each one qian).
Crush and grind the above six herbs into a powder. Wash the sore with warm salt rice water and apply dry.
**Xiondan Gao (Bear Bile Ointment)**
*Treatment for all malignant sores.*
*Ursi Fel* (Xiondan) (ground, one qian), *Calomelas* (Nifen) (half fen), *Realgar* (Xionghuang) (ground), *Musk* (Shexiang) (ground, each half qian), *Arecae Semen* (Binglang) (powder, one zi).
Grind the above five herbs evenly. In the twelfth lunar month, take one pig gallbladder, extract the juice, mix with the medicine, and return the mixture into the gallbladder. Tie securely with cotton thread, knead evenly, and smoke black with pine resin.
**Fengxiang San (Liquidambar Powder)**
*Treatment for all malignant sores with unbearable pain.*
*Liquidambaris Resina* (Fengxiangzhi) (place on paper on the ground until brittle, then grind), *Calomelas* (Nifen) (each one fen).
Grind the above two herbs evenly and finely. Before application, hold warm vinegar water in the mouth, spit it out to wash the sore clean, then sprinkle the dry powder on the sore. Continue until healed.
**Liuhuang Gao (Sulfur Ointment)**
*Treatment for all unnamed malignant sores.*
*Sulfur* (Liuhuang), *Calomelas* (Nifen), *Evodiae Fructus* (Wuzhuyu) (washed with water, dried, roasted, each one fen), *Alumen* (Fanshi) (boiled until juice is dry), *Ostreae Concha* (Muli) (red variety, ground, each half liang).
Grind the above five herbs finely. Add half liang of light sesame oil and one liang of yellow beeswax. Boil together into an ointment. Spread on paper according to the sore size, melt with fire, and apply.
**Xuejie San (Dragon's Blood Powder)**
*Treatment for unpredictable malignant sores persisting for years, highly effective.*
*Sanguis Dracaena* (Xuejie) (one liang), *Minii Preparatio* (Qiandan) (half liang, stir-fried until purple).
Crush and grind the above two herbs into a powder. Wash the sore with salt water first, then apply.
**Baipi San (Phellodendrum Bark Powder)**
*Treatment for unnamed malignant sores persisting for years.*
*Phellodendri Cortex* (Huangbai) (honey-roasted), *Urticae Insectum* (Yuchong) (roasted dry, each one qian), *Musk* (Shexiang) (small amount, ground).
Grind the above three herbs into a fine powder. Wash the sore with salt rice water, mix the powder with saliva, and apply using paper flowers.
**Erhuang San (Two Yellows Powder)**
*Treatment for all malignant sores.*
*Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Dahuang) (cut), *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian) (remove roots), *Gardeniae Fructus* (Shanzhiziren), *Forsythiae Fructus* (Lianqiao), *Bletillae Rhizoma* (Baiji), *Indigo Naturalis* (Qingdai) (each one liang).
Crush and sieve the above six herbs into a powder. If there is pus, apply dry; if no pus, mix with water and apply.
**Another Formula:**
*Phellodendri Cortex* (Huangbai) (scraped of rough bark), *Curcumae Aromatica Rhizoma* (Yujin), *Flos Hibisci Mutabilis* (Huangshukuihua), *Ampelopsis Radix* (Bailian).
Mix the above four herbs in equal parts, crush and sieve into a powder. Mix with Lily bulb water and apply.
**Muxiang San (Aucklandia Powder)**
*Treatment for various malignant sores.*
*Aucklandiae Radix* (Muxiang), *Arecae Semen* (Binglang) (cut), *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian) (remove roots).

*Leonuri Herba* (Chuanxiong) (three qian), *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Dahuang) (one fen), *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Gancao) (roasted, one liang), *Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus* (Yizhi) (skin removed), *Agastaches Herba* (Huoxiang) (leaf, each four qian), *Gardeniae Fructus* (Zhizi) (six qian), *Saposhnikoviae Radix* (Fangfeng) (twigs removed, half qian), *Realgar* (Xionghuang), *Orpiment* (Cihuang) (each two qian), *Musk* (Shexiang) (half qianbi), *Calomelas* (Nifen) (five qianbi), *Hydrargyrum* (Shuiyin) (one fen, ground into sand-like particles).
Process thirteen herbs. Grind all except those requiring fine grinding into powder. First grind Hydrargyrum, Calomelas, and Boswelliae Resina together, then add other herbs and grind finely.
