Commentary states: The *Neijing* (Inner Canon) mentions that dampness injures the flesh, because the Spleen governs the muscles and dislikes dampness. When various sores are not yet healed, or if they are exposed to water, water toxicity may erupt causing swelling, leading to pain, suppuration, and persistent ulceration without healing. This is referred to as dampness injuring the muscles. Treatment should involve applying external medicaments to drain the water completely; once the water is expelled, the muscle tissue will return to a balanced state, and the sore can heal.
Formula for Treating Water Toxicity Entering Various Sores with Persistent Swelling and Pain: Zhuishui San (Water-Chasing Powder)
Zhen Tan Hui (True Charcoal Ash), 4 liang; Zhu Dan (Pig Gallbladder), 1 unit; Ge Fen (Clam Shell Powder), 2 liang.
Sieve the charcoal ash finely. Spread a sheet of paper on the ground and spread the ash to a thickness of two fingers. Pour pig bile onto the ash. After one night, remove the ash that has absorbed moisture, dry it in the sun, and mix it thoroughly with clam shell powder. Apply a small amount to the sore. If the sore opening has closed, puncture it with a needle before applying the powder, allowing the fluid to drain.
Formula for Treating Water Toxicity Entering Sores Causing Swelling and Pain, or Penetrating into Bone: Zaozi San (Soap Nut Powder)
Zao Jia Zi (Gleditsia Sinensis Seed), 7 unripe seeds; Da Xia Wa (Large Toad), 1 dried specimen; Hu Jiao (Black Pepper), 15 grains.
Place the three ingredients in a crucible, cover the mouth with a tile, and heat slowly over a low fire until the smoke ceases. Remove and grind into fine powder. Before application, wash the sore with warm rice water, dry it, sprinkle the powder, and then apply another plaster. After some time, the fluid will drain completely, and any penetrating foreign bodies will become visible.
Formula for Treating All Sores, Including Those Where External Trauma to Muscles Allows Water Entry Leading to Suppurative Swelling and Chronic Non-Healing: Cunjin San (Inch-Gold Powder)
Xia Wa (Toad), naturally deceased; Xin Zhuan (New Brick), equal parts.
Grind the two ingredients together until uniform, shape into cakes, dry in the sun, and grind into a fine powder. Sprinkle onto the sore opening to extract toxic fluids, then apply other medicaments.
Formula for Treating Broken Skin with Water Entry, Resulting in Swelling, Ulceration, and Non-Healing: Qiandan San (Lead Tetroxide Powder)
Qiandan (Lead Tetroxide); Ge Fen (Clam Shell Powder), equal parts.
Stir-fry the two ingredients together until the color changes. Sprinkle onto the sore to allow fluid drainage.
Formula for Treating Water Toxicity and Swelling/Pain in Various Sores: Wumei San (Dark Plum Powder)
Wumei (Dark Plum); Zao Jia Zi (Gleditsia Sinensis Seed), equal parts.
Calcine each ingredient separately until the original properties are preserved, grind uniformly, and apply to the sore to discharge toxic juices.
Formula for Treating Heat and Unremitting Pain Caused by Soap Pod Water or Malignant Water Entering Sores: Wuxi Gao (Rhinoceros Horn Ointment)*
Zao Jia Zi (Gleditsia Sinensis Seed), calcined to preserve properties, 1 fen; Sha Tang (Brown Sugar), 0.5 liang.
Grind the soap pod ash finely, mix with brown sugar to form an ointment consistency, and apply to the sore.
Formula for Treating All Cases of Water Toxicity Entering Sores with Swelling, as well as Contamination from Donkey Saliva or Horse Sweat: Tianxiong San (Aconite Root Powder)
Tianxiong (Processed Lateral Root of Aconitum), peeled.
Scrape the single ingredient into a fine powder using a ceramic tile and apply to the sore opening.
Formula for Treating Water Toxicity in Various Sores, Wind-Stroke with Opisthotonos, or Swelling Entering the Abdomen Which Can Be Fatal: Luafa Xun (Human Hair Fumigation)
Luafa (Shed Human Hair), 1 liang; Ji Fen (Chicken Manure), 3 liang; Da Ma Zi (Hemp Seed); Hei Dou (Black Soybean), 3 liang each; Qing Bu (Blue Cloth), 1 chi, impregnated with 3 liang of wax melted over fire.
Spread the hair on the wax-impregnated blue cloth, evenly scatter chicken manure, hemp seeds, and black beans on top. Roll into a cake-like bundle and bind tightly. Place an inverted tube-shaped tile over it. Heat slowly... [Text fragment "Han Chu" (Sweat Out) appears isolated here].
Formula for Treating Water Toxicity in Various Sores Attacking with Swelling: Hufen Tu (White Lead Paste)
Hufen (White Lead); Duanshi (Calcareous Earth), sifted and ground, 3 fen each.
Mix the two ingredients with rendered lard to form a paste, apply to the sore to facilitate fluid drainage.
