Discourse states: When Huoluan (cholera-like syndrome) causes Qi stagnation to knot in the epigastrium and fail to dissipate, Heart Qi cannot descend smoothly. Hence, character dictionaries explain "Pi" (fullness/obstruction) as "Pi" (unfavorable/blockage), indicating a state of obstruction. However, Pi syndrome is characterized by deficiency; it is painless upon palpation. Although there is a sensation of Qi blockage and stifling, purgatives should not be used. Instead, one should harmonize Stomach Qi and regulate the ascending and descending of Qi, whereupon the obstructed Qi will naturally dissipate, and Huoluan will subside.
