Discourse states: The manifestations of wind-induced mania (Feng Kuang). Initially, the patient sleeps little and feels no hunger, regards themselves as superior, considers themselves virtuous, argues for themselves, and deems themselves noble. Generally, the Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi circulate throughout the body without cease during day and night. Once balance is lost, blood may congregate in the Yin while Qi congregates in the Yang; or blood may congregate in the Yang while Qi congregates in the Yin. The deficiency and excess of Yin and Yang Qi are unregulated, allowing Wind pathogen (Feng Xie) to enter due to deficiency. If Wind combines with Yang, it is called "Double Yang" (Chong Yang). Therefore, the disease presents with spontaneous laughter, fondness for entertainment, and incessant erratic behavior. In severe cases, the patient may strip naked and run, climb high places and sing, or go several days without eating. Hence, it is called Mania (Kuang). Furthermore, the Liver stores the Hun (Ethereal Soul), which travels with the Shen (Spirit). Sorrow moving within damages the Hun, leading to mania.
