Discussion states: Ancients discussed Hong Kong foot (a disease characterized by swelling and pain in the feet), stating that when the Spleen is affected by Yang toxicity, it manifests as a Heat syndrome; when the Kidney is affected by Yin dampness, it manifests as Cold Bi-syndrome. Thus, it is known that Hong Kong foot disease is mostly caused by damage to the Spleen and Kidney. The current transformation into edema is also due to the deficiency of both the Spleen and Kidney. Generally speaking, Kidney deficiency fails to transform water, and Spleen deficiency fails to control water, causing water qi to scatter and overflow, seeping into the skin and flowing through the four limbs, thereby resulting in generalized edema.
