It is discussed that there are cases where nasal polyps grow, leading to the loss of smell and taste, and there are also cases without polyps but with the same symptom. For the latter caused by polyps, prescriptions have already been listed; here we briefly discuss nasal congestion causing the loss of smell and taste. Nasal obstruction may result from cold wind invading the Lung or from heat accumulation in the Lung meridian. Although cold and heat differ in nature, the resulting obstruction is consistent, both stemming from disharmony of the Lung organ and failure of Qi to circulate freely. Therefore, treating obstruction requires distinguishing between cold and heat patterns.
