[Bai'e (Kaolin)] Bitter and acrid, warm, non-toxic. Primarily treats chills and fever, abdominal masses (zheng jia), amenorrhea with accumulations, swelling and pain in the yin region, metrorrhagia, infertility, diarrhea, and dysentery. *Yao Lun* states: Used as a guiding drug (shi). Sweet, neutral. Treats blood stasis in women, irregular menstruation; can astringe the intestines to stop dysentery, and has a warming effect. Ri Huazi states: Sweet. Treats hemorrhoids, seminal emission, coldness of the male kidney (shui zang), epistaxis, and hematemesis. For medicinal use, calcine before application. Originates from the valleys of Handan.
[Jinya] Acrid, neutral, non-toxic. Treats pruritus, burns, carbuncles, white tinea capitis (bai tu), scabies, necrotic tissue, and spreading skin lesions (qin yin). Boiling and refining it can nourish yin qi and transform it into cinnabar. Ri Huazi states: Glass (referring to a mineral, not modern glass), cold, non-toxic. Calms the mind and stops palpitations, brightens the eyes, and when ground, removes ocular nebula. Chen Zangqi states: Glass treats body heat and red eyes; soak in water until cold and apply as a compress. Neutralizes tin toxicity; works well combined with mercury. Aversion: Chicken bone.
[Ziran Tong (Natural Copper)] Acrid, neutral, non-toxic. Treats fractures, disperses blood stasis to relieve pain, and breaks down accumulations. Ri Huazi states: Cool. Expels pus, resolves blood stasis, promotes healing of broken bones, treats postpartum blood pathogenic factors, calms the mind, and stops palpitations. Take with wine. Lei Gong states: Shi Mei Qian is Natural Copper. Do not use square-shaped Jinya. Jinya resembles Shi Mei Qian; if mistakenly ingested, it causes fatal vomiting. Shi Mei Qian resembles dried silver mud. *Dan Fang Jing Yuan* states: It is edible. In Lianshan County, deep within silver fields and copper pits, copper ore condenses over years of mineral vapor, resembling a puffball mushroom. It is purple and heavy; if it tastes astringent when eaten, it is authentic. Modern people mistake large stones for Natural Copper, which is an error.
[Dai Zhe Shi (Hematite)] Salty, non-toxic. Treats Gui Zhu (ghost infection/chronic consumptive disease). Originates from Shu Commandery. Those resembling gold are superior. *Yao Xing Lun* states: Used as the sovereign drug (jun). Treats all wind pathogens, tendon stiffness, and inability to move the waist and legs. Calcine, steep in water, and take for best results. Ri Huazi states: Sweet, neutral. Treats all cold wind pathogens, warms the waist and knees, tonifies the kidney water, and treats pediatric convulsions and epilepsy. For medicinal use, calcine and quench in water, remove coarse juices, then use. Currently produced in Shu and Han regions; resembles coarse gold, square like chess pieces but black on the outside, unsuitable for medicinal use. Sun Simiao states: Treats wind pathogens, Gui Zhu, southern miasma, and transmittable corpse diseases. Ge Hong states: Locations such as mountain streams, Maozhou, and Weizhou also produce superior varieties compared to Hanzhong.
