Hai Ge San (Clam Shell Powder, from Xu Shuwei's *Pu Ji Ben Shi Fang*) treats Blood-Jie-Chong (Blood Stasis obstructing the chest), (specifically for women suffering from Cold Damage where pathogenic heat and blood stasis bind in the chest and diaphragm, causing pain so severe that it cannot be touched. Tao Jie'an notes its efficacy.) Bowel movements should be clear; (if mixed with egg white for administration, it will not damage the Yin of the Lung and Stomach, making it an excellent treatment for intense pathogenic heat in Cold Damage, collateral obstruction, and pathology located in the Upper Jiao. Wang Haicang treated Blood-Jie-Chong using Guizhi Honghua Tang added with Hai Ge and Taoren, originally intending to resolve pathogens from both exterior and interior, upper and lower simultaneously, yet this formula is superior.)
Jie-Xiong Moxibustion Method (from Xu Shuwei's *Pu Ji Ben Shi Fang*) is indeed exquisite. (Take fourteen Baiduo seeds and seven large pieces of Huanglian, mix into a paste, fill into the umbilicus, and apply moxibustion; abdominal rumbling indicates the resolution of Jie-Xiong.) Grind the above herbs into powder, mix with water, fill into the umbilicus, and apply moxibustion on top. When sounds are heard in the abdomen, the disease is cured. The number of moxa cones is not fixed; stop when symptoms subside. Immediately after moxibustion, wipe with a warm, damp cloth to prevent ulceration. This method is stable and effective; any pathology in the chest can be treated according to this principle.
Shi Zao Tang (Ten Date Decoction, from Zhang Zhongjing's *Jin Gui Yao Lue*) uses Yuanhua (Gardenia Flower), Gansui (Kansui Root), and Daji (Euphorbia Root). (Equal parts, ground into powder, decocted with soup made from ten Jujube fruits.) It vigorously attacks Water-Qi (fluid retention) with formidable power, (causing diarrhea accompanied by fullness, hardness, and pain in the chest and hypochondrium, sweating, shortness of breath, and dry heaving. These symptoms are all caused by Water-Qi. Among Zhang Zhongjing's diuretic formulas, this is the most potent.) It eliminates accumulated Phlegm and latent Yin (fluid retention). (Phlegm and Yin are transformations of water; water condensed by Fire becomes Phlegm, water congealed by Cold becomes Yin. Treatment methods are detailed in *Jin Gui Yao Lue · Tan Yin Chapter*.) Do not use lightly in emaciated or deficient individuals. Alternatively, add Huangbai and Dahuang; Xiao Wei Dan (Small Stomach Pill, from Zhu Zhenheng's *Dan Xi Xin Fa*) treats Phlegm-Heat blocking the diaphragm. (Treats old and stubborn Phlegm obstructing the chest and diaphragm, causing panting, coarse breathing, and constipation. This formula is very potent, suitable for robust individuals with fluid retention, but contraindicated for the elderly and weak.)
San Yi Cheng Qi Tang (Three-One Lowering Qi Decoction), revised by Tao Jie'an, combines the methods of Xiao Cheng Qi Tang, Tiao Wei Cheng Qi Tang, and Da Cheng Qi Tang. (Treats abdominal fullness and solid pain due to Cold Damage, delirium, diarrhea, internal heat with constipation, sudden collapse due to Wind Stroke, and wind epilepsy. This formula merges the three Cheng Qi Decoctions into one, heavily utilizing Gancao to combine purging and tonifying, capturing the secret essence of Zhang Zhongjing.) Add Chaihu, Huangqin, and Iron Rust Water, named Zhui Re Kai Jie Liu Yi Cheng Qi Tang (Lowering Heat and Opening Knots Six-One Lowering Qi Decoction).
Huang Long Tang (Yellow Dragon Decoction) treats Re-Jie-Li (Heat-Binding Diarrhea). (Dry feces in the Stomach cause thirst, yet there is paradoxical diarrhea of clear water, known as Heat-Binding Diarrhea, occurring because ingested fluids seep downward.) Ren Shen, Danggui, Jiegeng are added to San Yi Cheng Qi Tang, along with Shengjiang and Dazao, addressing Yangming Excess patterns in patients with Deficiency signs. (For the elderly with Qi and Blood deficiency, remove Mangxiao.) *Huoren Shu* (Zhu Gong's *Shanghan Leizheng Huoren Shu*) also contains Huang Long Tang, composed of equal parts Chaihu, Huangqin, Renshen, and Gancao. (This is Xiaochaihu Tang minus Banxia, Shengjiang, and Dazao, treating chills and fever resembling malaria during pregnancy, wind-strike postpartum, and unresolved fever after illness relapse due to overexertion.)
