A prescription for treating all kinds of malignant nodules, scrofula (tuberculous lymphadenitis), carbuncles and furuncles, and malignant swellings.
Qingmuxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum), Chenxiang (Aquilae Lignum Resinatum), Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos), Xunluxiang (Boswelliae Fructus), Shexiang (Moschus), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Sangjisheng (Taxilli Herba), Tongcao (Tetrapanacis Medulla) (each 2 liang), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (3 liang).
The above twelve herbs are coarsely crushed, decocted in 9 sheng of water until 4 sheng remains, then add Zhuli (Bambusae Sap) 3 sheng and continue to boil until 3 sheng remains. Divide into three doses. The goal is to achieve a comfortable bowel movement. (Zhouhou Beiji Fang contains Zige and Gancao, but no Tongcao. It treats malignant flesh, malignant vessels, and pain from swelling due to wind-nodules. Yaoji Yuyi contains Huangbai, Gancao, and Mangxiao, each 6 fen. Qianjin Yi Fang states: if the disease has not healed, taking it continuously in the interim is beneficial. This differs slightly from the formula in the pediatric section.)
A prescription for treating carbuncles and furuncles on the back.
Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (each 3 liang), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum) (each 2 liang).
The above fourteen herbs are coarsely crushed. Decoct Zhu Ye (Bambusae Folium) in 12 sheng of water first to obtain 10 sheng of liquid. Remove the dregs, add the herbs, and decoct until 3 sheng remains. Divide into four doses. The interval between doses should be equivalent to the time it takes a person to walk twenty li. Take three times during the day and once at night.
Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Maocao (Polygoni Aristentacei Herba), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Zhizi Ren (Gardeniae Semen) (equal parts).
The above eight herbs are processed and sifted into powder. Mix with egg white (Jizi Bai) to form a paste-like consistency. Apply onto old cloth and dress over the swollen area according to its size. Change when dry. If the ulcer has already opened, apply the dressing over the wound, ensuring the opening allows for ventilation.
A prescription for treating abscesses that cannot suppurate, causing severe distress.
Wangbuliuxingzi (Vaccariae Semen) (3 he, Qianjin Yi Fang uses 1 sheng), Longgu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi et Femoris), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (each 2 liang), Yegepi (Puerariae Lobatae Cortex) (0.5 fen), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus) (each 1 liang), Gualougen (Trichosanthis Radix) (6 fen).
The above seven herbs are processed and sifted into powder. Take one fangcunbi (a measure roughly equal to a square inch) after meals with warm wine, three times a day. The treatment is considered effective when there is a slight tingling sensation in the limbs. If ineffective, increase the dosage slightly to ensure patient comfort. (Waitai Miyao states: this formula is used for carbuncles, furuncles, and various other suppurated swellings.)
