Treats Eight Winds (pathogenic factors associated with eight directions) and Twelve Bi Syndromes (obstruction syndromes characterized by pain and numbness). For hemiplegia, Li Jie pain (severe joint pain), dry and atrophic muscles, skin numbness or twitching, or tendon laxity and acute pain not localized to one area. Sudden onset of dizziness, loss of heart spirit (Shen) with mental confusion, delirious speech and errors, scrofula (lymph node tuberculosis) on the body, sores on the face or yellow sweat discharge that spreads and stains, conditions varying between dryness and dampness, complexion alternating between red and white, or blue and black, opisthotonos (backward bending of the body like a bow), alternating chills and fever. This formula is:

Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu, 白术) (each 1 jin); Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo, 羌活) (3 jin); Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 黄芩) (1 jin 5 liang); Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang, 大黄) (0.5 jin); Trichosanthis Radix (Gualougen, 栝蒌根), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草), Luanjing (栾荆 - likely a specific local herb name), Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix (Tianxiong, 天雄), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi, 白芷), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风), Paeoniae Radix (Shaoyao, 芍药), Asparagi Radix (Tiandong, 天冬), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao, 石膏) (each 10 liang); Corni Fructus (Shanyuzi, 山萸), Zanthoxyli Fructus (Shizhuyu, 食茱萸), Rhododendri Mollis Flos (Zhizhu, 踯躅) (each 5 sheng); Typhonii Rhizoma (Yinyu, 茵芋) (14 liang); Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi, 附子) (30 pieces); Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin, 细辛), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Ganjiang, 干姜), Cinnamomi Cortex (Guixin, 桂心) (each 5 liang); Realgar (Xionghuang, 雄黄), Cinnabar (Zhusha, 朱砂), Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix (Danshen, 丹参) (each 6 liang).

Process the above twenty-five ingredients, sift into fine powder. Take one fangcun bi (a square-inch measure) with wine. Initially take once daily; after thirty days, take twice daily. Effective after fifty days, cured after one hundred days, fully recovered after one year. Long-term use is beneficial. Take before meals.

Treats states of bewilderment resembling drunkenness, delirious speech, palpitations and terror, mental confusion seeing ghosts, erratic emotions of joy, anger, sorrow, and worry, vexation and fullness, disorientation, depression, shortness of breath inability to speak, forgetting upon speaking. Or heart pain radiating to the back, lack of appetite, aversion to wind unable to remove curtains, occasional painful heat, aversion to human voices, insensitivity to pain and itch, whole-body tremors and shaking, sweating, limb flaccidity and retraction, heavy and edematous head, insensitivity to pain when scratched, stiff neck and nape, facial deviation (mouth and eyes twisted), limbs unable to move freely, anesthesia, hemiplegic atrophy, spasms and convulsions preventing flexion and extension. This formula governs all these symptoms.

Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix (Tianxiong, 天雄), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归), Ginseng Radix (Renshen, 人参) (each 5 fen); Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi, 附子), Asparagi Radix (Tiandong, 天冬), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风), Zanthoxyli Fructus (Shujiao, 蜀椒), Actaeosae Radix (Duhuo, 独活) (each 4 fen); Aconiti Radix (Wutou, 乌头), Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix (Qinjiao, 秦艽), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin, 细辛), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu, 白术), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Ganjiang, 干姜) (each 3 fen); Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄), Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi, 五味子), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng, 桔梗), Corni Fructus (Shanyuzi, 山萸), Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu, 柴胡), Caesalpiniae Spinae (Mangcao, 莽草), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi, 白芷) (each 2 fen).

Process the above twenty ingredients, sift into fine powder, mix thoroughly. Take half a fangcun bi with wine, gradually increasing to a full fangcun bi, three times daily. The effect is indicated when the body feels as if pricked by needles, signifying the medicine is circulating.
