For the treatment of wind diseases, regardless of their severity, this formula is indicated.
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) (each 3 liang); Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulum), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Fuling (Poria), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (each 2 liang); Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (5 liang); Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (4 liang).
The above fifteen ingredients are coarsely sifted. Place five fangcunbi (a measure of volume for herbs) of the mixture into a small silk bag. Add four sheng (a unit of liquid volume) of water and three liang of fresh ginger. Decoct to obtain two and a half sheng of liquid. Divide into three doses. Take daily without interruption. Avoid wind and cold. This formula is highly effective. I once suffered from stroke (Zhongfeng), with slurred speech and dragging limbs. I used this formula, taking four doses per day, continuously for ten days and nights, and was cured.
This formula treats wind deficiency, dampness, and cold in men and women, where pathogenic factors enter the zang organs, causing delirious talk,妄语 (delusions), and mental confusion. When liver wind manifests, the face turns blue, there is chest oppression and confusion, vomiting of foam, hypochondriac pain, heavy dizziness, deafness, hemiplegia, tendon spasm, and a posture of flexed knees while lying down. When heart wind manifests, the face turns red, there is sudden heat, sadness, anger, wide-eyed staring, and shouting. When spleen wind manifests, the face turns yellow, the body is numb and insensible, walking is impossible, taste is lost, dreams are inverted, and one feels as if accompanied by the dead. When lung wind manifests, the face is pale, there is coughing, qi rebellion, expectoration of pus and blood, and extreme dyspnea. When kidney wind manifests, the face is black, limbs are uncoordinated, lower back pain prevents bending and turning, there is bi syndrome with cold bone pain. All these symptoms cause fright, instability of will, trance, and forgetfulness. Taking this formula calms the mind and stabilizes the spirit, improves hearing and vision, promotes the free flow of the zang-fu organs, and treats various wind diseases.
Baixianpi (Dictamni Cortex), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulum), Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (each 2 liang); Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Fuling (Poria) (each 3 liang); Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (4 liang).
The above thirteen ingredients are cut into small pieces. Add ten dou (a unit of dry volume) of water. Decoct to obtain three sheng of liquid. Take one sheng per dose. Cover with blankets to induce slight sweating. Three doses may be taken.
This formula treats toxic wind and stubborn bi syndrome with dragging limbs, incoordination of hands and feet, hemiplegia, or physical weakness. It also treats wind entering the five zang organs, causing trance, excessive talking, forgetfulness, and occasional fear. It treats joint pain, dizziness, and irritability. It treats stiffness of the waist and spine preventing bending and turning, abdominal fullness, anorexia, and cough. It treats sudden collapse and suffocation at the onset of illness, followed by aphonia, hemiplegia, numbness, heaviness, all caused by physical weakness and failure to avoid wind and cold.
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (1.5 liang); Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (each 1.5 liang); Wutou (Aconiti Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix), Shihu (Dendrobii Caulis), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Fuling (Poria) (each 1 liang); Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) (40 seeds); Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Ziwan (Asternis Radix) (each 1 liang); Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (1 liang); Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulum), Jiangtang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (each 2 liang); Dadou (Sojae Semen Glycerinatum) (1 dou; *Yifang* states 2 he).
The above twenty-three ingredients are cut into small pieces. Add thirteen and a half sheng of water and two sheng of wine. Decoct together to obtain four sheng of liquid. Strong individuals divide this into four doses; weak individuals divide it into six doses.
