Formula for treating Wind-Stroke causing pain and weakness in the waist and legs (named Da Feng Yin Tang by Hu Qia).
Du Huo (Notopterygii Radix), Fu Ling (Poria), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) [each 3 liang], Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gan Cao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis) [each 2 liang, Hu Qia's version uses Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix)], Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) [1 piece], Da Dou (Sojae Semen) [2 sheng].
The above ten ingredients are cut into small pieces, decocted with 9 sheng of water and 3 sheng of wine until 3 sheng remains. Divide into four doses. The interval between each dose should be equivalent to the time it takes a person to walk ten li (Hu Qia states: named Xiao Feng Yin Tang. The Shu Fan Fang omits Shi Hu, used to treat extreme cold in muscles, muscle atrophy, and tongue flaccidity, named E Feng Yao Tong Jiao Ruo syndrome).
Formula for Wind-Dampness Bi syndrome where Wind and Dampness contend, causing severe joint pain, stiffness and spasm of the four limbs making flexion and extension impossible, aggravation upon touch, spontaneous sweating, shortness of breath, difficulty in urination, aversion to wind with reluctance to remove clothing, or intermittent edema of the head, face, hands, and feet.
Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) [2 pieces], Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [3 liang], Gan Cao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) [2 liang].
The above four ingredients are cut into small pieces, decocted with 6 sheng of water until 3 sheng remains. Divide into three doses. Recovery occurs with slight sweating. If restlessness occurs after profuse sweating, administer 5 he per dose. For body edema, add Fang Ji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix) 4 liang. For palpitations and qi rebellion with difficulty in urination, add Fu Ling (Poria) 3 liang; since Fu Zi is already included, add Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) 3 liang now.
Formula for treating weak legs due to solid Wind-Toxin and miasma in Lingnan causing facial edema, alternating chills and fever resembling malaria, leg swelling with qi rushing to the chest causing oppression, cough, paralysis, slowness, and stubborn Bi syndrome.
Ma Ren (Semen Cannabis), Sheng Ma (Bupleuri Radix), Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba), She Gan (Belamcandae Rhizoma), Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Mang Xiao (Natrii Sulfas), Gan Cao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) [each half liang], Chi Shao (not explicitly listed but implied in context? No, only listed items): Chi Shao is not listed. Items listed: Ma Ren, Sheng Ma, Ma Huang, She Gan, Chang Pu, Mang Xiao, Gan Cao, Da Huang [each half liang], Chi Shao is NOT in list. Wait, text says "Ma Ren... Da Huang (each half liang) Chi Shao (3 he)". Correction: Chi Shao (Semen Sojae Preparatum / Fermented Soybean) [3 he].
The above nine ingredients are cut into small pieces, decocted with 6 sheng of water until 2.5 sheng remains. Add Mang Xiao (Natrii Sulfas), boil for three more turns. Divide into three doses. Mild diarrhea one or two times helps detoxify and clear heat. Apply swollen residue externally. It is beneficial to take one dose whenever feeling fullness of qi.
Formula for treating deficiency-Wind and consumptive damage complicated by toxin, causing weak legs, painful Bi or immobility, coldness in the Lower Jiao, slight lingering heat in the chest, heart deficiency with palpitations and insomnia, poor appetite and loss of taste, frequent mental distress and inability to lie down day and night, difficulty in urination, and occasional diarrhea. When Prince Xiangdong arrived at Jiangzhou, he suffered from illness in Lingnan exactly as described, extremely critical. I prepared this decoction for him to take, and he gained strength immediately. For conditions similar to this, taking this formula ensures recovery. This is a formula for adjustment based on circumstances.
Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Gan Cao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Rou Cong Rong (Cistanches Herba), Gan Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Chi Shi Zhi (Kaolinite), Fu Shen (Poria cum Pinodi), Di Gu Bai Pi (Lycii Cortex), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Yuan Zhi (Polygalae Radix), Ci Shi (Magnetitum), Zhi Shi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Long Gu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi et Scapulae) [each 1 liang], Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) [each 2 liang], Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) [4 liang], Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus) [3 he], Da Zao (Jujubae Fructus) [30 pieces], Bai Yang Shen (Caprinus Ren) [1 pair], Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) [1 sheng].
The above twenty-three ingredients are cut into small pieces. Decoct the Bai Yang Shen (Caprinus Ren) in 2 dou of water, obtain 1.2 sheng of juice, add all other herbs, and decoct until 4 sheng remains. Divide into five doses. If there is no bowel movement, remove Long Gu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi et Scapulae) and Chi Shi Zhi (Kaolinite). If urination is astringent, replace Fu Shen (Poria cum Pinodi) with Chi Fu Ling (Poria) and add Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 3 liang. If heat is excessive, add Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix) 1 liang. For enuresis, add Sang Piao Xiao (Mantidis Oötheca) 20 pieces (Hu Qia's formula lacks Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Rou Cong Rong (Cistanches Herba), Chi Shi Zhi (Kaolinite), Di Gu Pi (Lycii Cortex), Ci Shi (Magnetitum), Zhi Shi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Long Gu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi et Scapulae), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma); it contains Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), totaling fifteen ingredients).
