This is a formula used by Pei Xiu, the Sima (Minister of Works), for treating sudden and acute disorders of the heart and abdomen.
Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Ba Dou (Crotonis Fructus) (equal parts).
All ingredients must be refined and fresh. The dosage is flexible. First, crush Da Huang and Gan Jiang and sieve them into powder. Separately, grind Ba Dou until it resembles paste or fat, then mix it into the powder and pound together for one thousand strokes.
It can be used as a powder in this state, or preferably made into pills with honey. Store in a sealed container to prevent the loss of medicinal qi. If afflicted by evil influences or "Ke Wu" (sudden shock from external pathogenic factors), presenting with abdominal distension and fullness, stabbing pain, locked jaw, rapid breathing, or even apparent death ("Ting Shi"), administer three bean-sized pills with warm water or wine. Adjust dosage for the elderly and children. Support the patient's head to ensure swallowing. If not revived after a short while, repeat the treatment.
A formula for treating ten thousand diseases.
Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Fu Ling (Poria), Yuan Zhi (Polygalae Radix), Heng Shan (Polygalae Radix), Ku Shen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix), Dan Shen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix), Sha Shen (Glehniae Radix or Adenophorae Radix), Long Dan (Gentianae Radix), Long Gu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi et Ossis Cruris), Mu Meng (Ostreae Concha), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma),
Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Zi Wan (Asteris Radix), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix), Tian Xiong (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata), Ge Gen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Ju Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Ba Dou (Crotonis Fructus), Ye Lang Ya (Sibiricae Semen), (each 2 liang), Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Mu Li (Ostreae Concha), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma)
(each 3 liang), Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (powdered, 5 liang), Bai Wei (Cynanchi Atrati Radix) (6 fen), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix) (7 fen), Lu Suan (Phragmitis Rhizoma) (one large piece).
Of the above twenty-nine herbs, first crush and sieve twenty-seven herbs until fine. Then crush Ba Dou and Xing Ren into a paste. Mix thoroughly, add white honey, and pound for over five thousand strokes. Form pills the size of mulberry seeds. Take seven pills on an empty stomach with wine, three times daily. For conditions of hernia, mass accumulation, and stagnation, take for fifty days for complete cure. I often use this formula to regulate Qi.
A formula for treating Gui Zhu (ghostly infection) and Fei Shi (flying corpse disease).
She Xiang (Moschi Moschiferi Granulum) (3 fen), Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (8 fen), Niu Huang (Bovis Calculus), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata), Gui Jiu (Podophylli Peltati Rhizoma et Radix), Zhen Zhu (Margarita), Mang Cao (Herba Siegesbeckiae), Xi Jiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu), Fan Shi (Alumen), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus).
[Note: Text fragment "Ren" likely refers to a seed count missing specific herb name in source context, but listed as quantity] (each 50 pieces), Yuan Qing (Lytta), Di Dan (Bufo Viridis Secretion or according to *Waitai Mi Yao*, Boas Gallbladder), Ting Chang (Lytta), Ban Mao (Mylabris). (each 7 pieces).
Grind the above twenty-three herbs into powder. Mix with honey and pound for three thousand strokes. Form pills the size of small beans. Take one pill with water, twice daily, gradually increasing to three pills.
For insect or venomous bites, apply topically until sensation returns. If entering areas with toxic epidemics, funeral sites, or places associated with malevolent spirits, carry the pills in a bright red pouch. Men wear it on the left, women on the right, tied to the elbow. Apply a small amount under the nose at the Renzhong point (GV26) to prevent nightmare sleep.
