Realgar (Xionghuang), Veratrum nigrum Rhizome (Lilu), Cinnabar (Dansha), Stone (Shi, likely referring to a mineral such as Muscovite or similar, character missing in original text preserved as 'Stone'), Croton Seed (Badou), and Eight-angled Aconite Root (Bajiao Fuzi) (each two liang).
The above six ingredients: First, pound the Croton Seed (Badou) three thousand times. Then add the Stone (Shi) and pound another three thousand times. Next, add the Veratrum nigrum Rhizome (Lilu) and pound three thousand times. Then add the Aconite Root (Fuzi) and pound three thousand times. Finally, pound all together five hundred times. Add a small amount of honey to prevent the powder from flying. The preparation of medicine should be done on an auspicious day and hour according to the Wang-Xiang calendar system; it is best if performed by a fasting boy. The weather should be clear without clouds or fog, conducted during daylight hours. Once prepared, seal the medicine tightly in a vessel to prevent leakage of qi, and store it in a clean place. Adults take pills the size of small beans. To purge pathogenic factors, fast the night before, and take two pills at dawn. If ineffective, drink warm millet gruel to promote the effect and induce evacuation. If diarrhea persists, drink cold water to stop it. If the disease is located above the diaphragm, vomiting occurs; if below the diaphragm, diarrhea occurs; or recovery may follow belching. For gradual elimination of disease or daily maintenance, take two pills the size of hemp seeds. In cases of sudden onset of evil toxicity leading to unconsciousness, mix two pills with wine or hot water, force open the mouth, and pour into the throat. For Gu Zhu disease (a chronic wasting infectious disease) of various unnamed types, take two pills with fermented grain water (Jiangshui), twice daily. For conditions caused by interaction with spirits, manifesting as unpredictable singing and crying, abdominal distension with amenorrhea resembling pregnancy, take two pills the size of broad beans with fermented grain water (Jiangshui), three times daily and once at night. Alternatively, mix with vinegar to a consistency like maltose syrup. Apply to the Laogong acupoint (Heart Master) on the palm every morning. By evening, apply to the foot Yin and Yang meridians and the nostrils. Recovery occurs within seven days. Alternatively, take one pill the size of a hemp seed with fermented grain water (Jiangshui), three times daily, for thirty days. For symptoms of aversion to wind, rebellious heart qi, and shortness of breath, take one pill. For abdominal pain resembling worms drilling into the flanks, acute pain that comes and goes, indicating evil wind, take two pills. For sorrow and anger causing qi stagnation in the chest and heart, frequent belching, cough, and stabbing pain in the chest, take three pills the size of hemp seeds, three times daily. For abdominal pain, distension, and loss of appetite, take two pills. For severe heart and abdominal pain accompanied by heat in the heart, take one pill the size of a hemp seed, three times daily, for five days until recovery. For Wind Hernia, Cold Hernia, Heart Hernia, and Stringy Hernia, where attacks cause acute abdominal pain, take two pills. For sudden upward rushing of qi, where qi exits but does not enter, along with rebellious qi rushing to the throat, or sudden accumulation in the stomach, take two pills, twice daily. For Phlegm-fluid retention, take one pill at dawn. For three types of intestinal parasites, fast the night before. Eat three pieces of roasted beef or mutton the next morning. Shortly after, take three pills the size of broad beans. Evacuation should occur by noon. If not evacuated by noon, take two more pills; the rotten parasites will surely be expelled. For sudden Guan-Ge syndrome (inability to urinate or defecate) leading to near death, take two pills. For sudden Huoluan with heart and abdominal pain, restlessness, fullness, vomiting, diarrhea, and cold extremities, take two pills. For Shanghan with choppy pulse, or seasonal febrile diseases, take one pill with warm wine, cover thickly to induce sweating. If no sweat, take again. For alternating chills and fever, take one pill. For malaria before onset, take one pill; after onset, take two pills to terminate the attack. For accumulated cold-heat and old痞 (masses), take two pills. For hard, knotted痞 masses, take one pill, three times daily until cured. For severe dysentery, one pill can stop it. For undigested meat causing hard abdominal distension, one pill brings immediate cure. For dripping emaciation and soreness/pain in all joints, take one pill, three times daily. For sudden wind swelling of the head, mix with vinegar or ointment, apply, and wrap with cotton wool. For carbuncles, sores, boils, scrofula, and impending abscesses, mix with vinegar and apply. For unnamed malignant ulcers or scabies/carbuncles, mix with ointment or vinegar. First wash the ulcer with salt water to remove crusts, dry, then apply. For toothache, wrap in cotton and insert into the hole. For Scrofula (Shu Lou), mix with lard, apply to the ulcer, and have a dog with a speckled tongue lick the wound. For water toxicity, take two pills. If an ulcer already exists, mix three pills with vinegar and apply. For deafness with pus and blood discharge, or sudden deafness, wrap two pills in red bean skin and insert into the ear. For wind-induced red or itchy eyes, blurred vision, tearing, and erosion, dissolve honey like maltose syrup, and apply to the eyes. If poisoned by Gu toxin, with hematemesis and stabbing pain in the abdomen, take one pill the size of a hemp seed. If symptoms worsen, increase to the size of a broad bean. Also apply to the nostrils. Mix with ointment and apply generally over the abdomen and back. It can also be burned to fumigate the mouth and nose. If bitten by snakes, vipers, or other poisons, or by mad dogs or horses, mix with vinegar for external application, and take two pills with water. For postpartum residual diseases in women, irregular menstruation, or amenorrhea, take two pills, twice daily. For women with stagnant qi in the chest, difficult breathing, hardness and urgency in the lower abdomen, and colic around the umbilicus, take one pill the size of a hemp seed with fermented grain water (Jiangshui), slightly increasing the dose to the size of a small bean. For infants and children suffering from various diseases, fright seizures,痞 obstruction, and heat: for those aged 100 days to half a year, place one pill the size of a millet grain on the nipple for sucking; for those over one year, use one pill the size of a hemp seed, three times daily, washed down with water. For pediatric abdominal distension, internal heat and toxic pathogens, indigestion forming accumulations, take one pill. For pediatric chills, fever, headache, body heat, and vomiting, take one pill the size of a hemp seed. For pediatric emaciation (Ding Xi syndrome), inability to eat, or inability to digest food, take two pills with fermented grain water (Jiangshui), three times daily. Alternatively, mix with vinegar to the size of a wu zi (seed of Sophora japonica) and apply to the abdomen, which is beneficial. For all myriad diseases, weighing the condition, one or two pills are sufficient, producing immediate effects without exception.
