In the second year of Jianning in the Eastern Han Dynasty, when Tai Sui was in You, epidemic qi spread widely, and many people died. A scholar named Ding Jihui came from Qingcheng Mountain in Shu, passed through Nanyang going east, and entered through the West Market gate. He saw many suffering from plague/epidemic diseases. He took medicine from his pouch and gave one pill to each person. Once the spiritual medicine touched their lips, their illnesses were cured without exception. Hundreds or thousands of epidemic ghosts in the market, seeing the scholar distribute medicine, fled in terror. A Ghost King saw the scholar, noting he possessed Daoist methods and distributed medicine, causing the ghosts to flee thus. The Ghost King approached the scholar to request learning his Daoist methods. The scholar said, "I have no Daoist methods," and presented the medicine from his pouch to the Ghost King. Upon seeing the medicine, the Ghost King knelt in panic, begged for mercy, and fled. This formula's medicine, when carried, can repel tigers, wild wolves, insects, and snakes in mountains, and remove water monsters like dragons and shells in water.
