Formula for treating cough and rebellious Qi in adults and children.
Three sheng of Xingren (Prunus armeniaca Seed), cooked and pounded into a paste; one sheng of Honey is divided into three portions. Take one portion and add it to the Xingren, pounding until it becomes firm; then add another portion and pound into a paste; finally add the last portion and pound until cooked and finished. Hold in the mouth and swallow before meals, with dosage adjusted as needed. Take three times daily. Each dose must not exceed half a "fangcun bi" (a square-inch measure); this will yield beneficial effects.

Another formula: Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, two jin, peeled, washed six or seven times in river water before use), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, four liang), Baifan (Alumen, one jin, ground into powder), Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos), Suosha (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), Cao Kou (Tsaoko Fructus), Chuan Shengma (Bupleuri Radix, each four liang).
The above seven herbs are mixed well with one dou of good wine and Banxia, blended uniformly, and soaked together. Soak for 21 or 27 days in spring and winter, and for 7 days in summer and autumn. Seal the container tightly. After the prescribed time, take out, rinse quickly with cold water, and dry in the wind. Take one pill per dose, chew thoroughly, and swallow with Ginger Decoction, or take dry. Wait for 60 days until completely dry before consumption. (Suspected not to be Sun Simiao's formula.)

Formula for treating infant cough.
Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, seven liang), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, four liang), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus, two liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Kua Donghua (Dodecatheonis Flore), Ziwan (Asteris Radix et Rhizoma, each three liang), Xingren (Prunus armeniaca Seed), Honey (each one jin).
Combine all herbs, grind into fine powder, and decoct over low heat until thickened like maltose syrup. Adjust the amount according to the child's age and size, allowing them to hold in the mouth and swallow. For infants of 100 days old, the dose should be the size of a jujube pit. Take four or five times daily; this is highly effective.

Formula for treating pediatric cough that improves during the day but worsens at night, accompanied by initial difficulty breathing and inability to cry.
Kua Donghua (Dodecatheonis Flore), Ziwan (Asteris Radix et Rhizoma, each one liang and half), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus, half liang), Fulonggan (Caulis Longii Preparatus, six zhu).
Grind the above herbs into powder, mix with Honey to form a mud-like consistency. Apply an amount the size of a jujube pit to the nipple, allowing the infant to suckle. Apply three times daily, gradually increasing the duration of sucking.

Formula for treating sudden cold-induced cough in children, accumulated wind-cold cough, and cough with rebellious Qi and wheezing.
Changpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Wutou (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Xingren (Prunus armeniaca Seed), Fanshi (Alumen), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Zaojia (Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina, each six zhu), Kua Donghua (Dodecatheonis Flore), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Ziwan (Asteris Radix et Rhizoma, each eighteen zhu), Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper, five zhu), Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus, six he).
Grind the above twelve herbs into powder, and make pills with Honey the size of wu zi (wukuo seeds). Children aged three years take five pills with water, increasing up to ten pills, three times daily. Reduce the dose for younger children and increase for older ones based on judgment. Sudden coughs can be cured after a few doses.
