The method is as follows: Use a rope to measure horizontally from the corner of the mouth to the other side, obtaining the measurement of the mouth's width in cun. Then, using one end of this rope, measure across the nose, spanning between the two nostrils, to obtain the measurement of the nose's width. Fold this rope measuring the nose in half to take half its length, and combine it with the rope measuring the mouth, then fold the combined length in half. First, locate the whorl of hair on the vertex of the head and moxibustion at the center of the whorl. Measure the four sides (left, right, front, back) of the head with the rope, and apply moxibustion at the points corresponding to the ends of the rope. Taking the anterior face as the reference for "front," determine the number of moxa cones based on the patient's age and physical strength. Perform moxibustion three times a year in total, ensuring that any resulting moxa blisters have healed before subsequent sessions. The number of cones for repeated moxibustion should be consistent with the previous instructions. If continuous moxibustion causes fire qi to ascend, for cases with multiple hair whorls, moxibustion should be applied to the whorl closest to the nose. If the whorl is near the forehead, it is also suitable for moxibustion. If the facial area where the finger points becomes scarred, avoid that part of the face; however, for severe cases, this restriction does not apply.

Meat from animals corresponding to the twelve Earthly Branches must not be consumed. However, if used as medicinal ingredients, Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis), Long Gu (Os Draconis), and Chi (Dens Draconis) may be used and should not be discarded.

(There are four treatises, thirty-six formulas, and fifty-eight acupuncture and moxibustion methods in this section.)

The treatise states: The Yellow Emperor asked, "Why do some people suffer from dian epilepsy from birth? How is it acquired?" Qibo replied, "This condition originates while the fetus is in the womb. If the mother experiences frequent great frights, the qi ascends and fails to descend, causing essence and qi to congregate internally. This leads the child to develop dian epilepsy after birth." When the pathogen affects the Yang meridians, presenting with both chills and fever, it is termed Kuang (Mania). Acupuncture should be performed to reduce the pulse. Observe the muscle compartments (fen); stop when the heat subsides and the illness resolves. For initial onset of Dian epilepsy: if it occurs once a year without treatment, or once a month without treatment, but occurs every four to five days, it is classified as Dian epilepsy. Treat by needling various muscle compartments. If the pulse indicates extreme cold, use the tonification method with needles. Stop treatment when the illness resolves. At the beginning of Dian epilepsy, the patient first feels unhappy, experiences heavy head, fixed gaze, and red eyes upon lifting them. After exhaustion during an attack, they feel irritable. Observe the face (yan) and select bloodletting points from the Hand Taiyang, Hand Yangming, and Hand Taiyin meridians. Stop when the blood color changes. If Dian epilepsy begins with body rigidity and subsequent back pain, observe the Foot Taiyang, Foot Yangming, and Foot Taiyin, as well as the Hand Taiyin meridians; stop bloodletting when the blood color changes. If Dian epilepsy starts with oral traction and crying/shouting (as described in *Jia Yi Jing* as panting and palpitations), observe the Hand Yangming and Hand Taiyang meridians. If rigidity is on the right, treat the left; if on the left, treat the right. Stop when the blood color changes. Those treating Dian epilepsy should reside with the patient, observing the appropriate acupoints. When an attack occurs, identify excess areas and drain them. Place the extracted blood in a gourd vessel. At the time of recurrence, the blood will move independently; if it does not move, apply moxibustion to Qionggu (the coccyx) for twenty cones. Qionggu refers to the tailbone. In Bone Dian Epilepsy, the jaw, teeth, and all muscle compartments are full/distended, bones are rigid and straight, sweating occurs with irritability and oppression, there is excessive vomiting of saliva/foam, and downward leakage of qi; these are incurable. In Tendon Dian Epilepsy, the body is curled and spasmodic, and the pulse is large. Needle the root of the major meridians in the neck. Excessive vomiting of saliva/foam and downward leakage of qi indicate incurability. In Pulse Dian Epilepsy, there is sudden collapse, distension of pulses in all four limbs, and fullness extending from the chest to under the arms. Bleed via acupuncture until fullness under the arms subsides, then moxa the Taiyang meridian. Also moxa the Da Mai (Girdle Vessel) at the muscle roots three cun apart in the waist region. Excessive vomiting of saliva/foam and downward leakage of qi indicate incurability. For treating Dian, if the patient becomes manic with thick, puffy facial skin, it is a death sign and incurable. Generally, during a Dian attack, the patient lies on the ground, vomiting saliva/foam and losing consciousness. If they struggle violently like mania or defecate involuntarily, it is difficult to treat. A large, slippery pulse in Dian epilepsy that persists will resolve spontaneously. A deep, small, rapid, and solid pulse indicates death and incurability. A small, firm, and rapid pulse is also untreatable. A deficient pulse is treatable; a excess pulse indicates death. Jue transforming into Dian epilepsy arises from disharmony of the Five Zang organs and blockage of the Six Fu organs. Jue transforms into Dian. Therefore, Jue is attached to this section. Yin deficiency generates Heat Jue; Yang deficiency generates Cold Jue.

The treatise states: The Yellow Emperor asked, "What causes the cold and heat variations in Jue?" Qibo replied, "Yang qi deficiency in the lower part results in Cold Jue; Yin qi deficiency in the lower part results in Heat Jue." The Emperor asked, "Why does Heat Jue necessarily begin at the soles of the feet?" Qibo answered, "Yang qi originates at the exterior of the five toes, gathers at the sole, and congregates at the ball of the foot. Thus, Yang excess causes heat in the soles." The Emperor asked, "Why does Cold Jue necessarily begin at the toes and ascend to the knees?" Qibo answered, "Yin qi originates at the interior of the five toes, gathers at the knee, and congregates above the knee. Thus, Yin excess causes cold from the toes to above the knee. This cold originates internally, not externally." Jue may cause abdominal fullness, sudden loss of consciousness, or recovery after half a day to a full day. Why? Yin excess in the upper part causes deficiency in the lower part. Lower deficiency leads to abdominal fullness. Abdominal fullness causes lower qi to become heavy and reverse upward, leading to counterflow of evil qi. Qi counterflow disrupts Yang qi, causing confusion and loss of consciousness. Jue of the Great Yang (Taiyang) causes swelling of the head, heaviness of the head, inability to walk, and sudden collapse. Jue of the Yangming causes panting, desire to run and shout, abdominal fullness preventing lying down, red and hot face, hallucinations, and delirious speech. Jue of the Shaoyang causes sudden deafness, swollen and hot cheeks, flank pain, and immobility of the thighs. Jue of the Taiyin causes abdominal fullness and bloating, constipation, anorexia, vomiting after eating, and inability to lie down. Jue of the Shaoyin causes dry tongue, red urine, abdominal fullness, and heart pain. Jue of the Jueyin causes lower abdominal swelling and pain, abdominal distension, difficulty in urination and defecation, preference for lying down with knees flexed, and contraction/swelling of the genitals internally (or externally). Excess heat is drained; deficiency is tonified. Neither excess nor deficiency is treated by selecting points along the affected meridian. For upper cold and lower heat, first needle the neck (Taiyang), retain the needle for a long time, then apply fire warming to the neck and scapulae until heat descends and cold dissipates. This is called "pushing upward." For upper heat and lower cold, observe deficient pulses sinking into the collaterals, select points to guide qi downward, and stop. This is called "drawing downward." Needling Heat Jue retains the needle to induce cold. Needling Cold Jue retains the needle to induce heat. For Heat Jue, needle two Yin points and one Yang point. For Cold Jue, needle two Yang points and one Yin point. "Two Yin" means twice needling Yin meridians; "Two Yang" means twice needling Yang meridians.

The treatise states: Warm diseases with heat entering the Kidney can also manifest as Spasm (Jing). Pediatric epilepsy with excessive heat can also manifest as Spasm. Wind aphonia, sudden corpse-like Jue, and nightmare-induced unconsciousness are similar and require careful differentiation. Hence, the classics state that prolonged Jue transforms into Dian, indicating their similarity.

The treatise states: There are five types of Dian disease: 1. Yang Dian: During attacks, the patient appears dead and urinates involuntarily, resolving after a short while. 2. Yin Dian: Caused by sitting while the umbilical wound was unhealed in infancy, with frequent bathing. 3. Feng Dian (Wind Dian): During attacks, eyes are drawn inward, muscles contract and spasm, producing sounds like a sheep. Resolves after a meal period. Caused by sweating due to heat and exposure to wind, excessive sexual activity, drinking to intoxication while full, which forces Heart qi, causing shortness of breath and palpitations. 4. Shi Dian (Damp Dian): Brow headache, heavy body. Caused by sitting in heat, washing hair with wetness accumulating in the brain, and stopping sweating prematurely. 5. Ma Dian (Horse Dian): During attacks, eyes roll back, jaws lock, hands and feet pull toward each other, whole body is hot. Caused by brief exposure to wind and heat affecting the brain.
