(One discussion, seventeen prescriptions)
Discussion states: Regarding difficult labor in women, signs of life and death are as follows: If the mother's face is red and tongue cyanotic, the fetus is dead but the mother lives. If the mother's lips and mouth are cyanotic with foam at the corners of the mouth, both mother and fetus die. If the mother's face is cyanotic, tongue red, with foam in the mouth, the mother dies but the fetus lives.
A miraculous prescription for treating fetal movement disorders, difficult labor, fetus dying in the uterus, or twin pregnancy with one dead and one alive, which expels the dead fetus and secures the living fetus:
Crab Claws (Xiezhua), one sheng; Licorice Root (Gancao), two chi; Donkey-hide Gelatin (Ejiao), three liang.
Take the above three ingredients with ten dou of water flowing from the east. First decoct crab claws and licorice root until reduced to three sheng, remove dregs, then add gelatin to dissolve. Administer all at once; if unable to take all at once, divide into two doses. If the patient is unconscious, pry open the mouth and administer the medicine; upon entry, the patient will revive. Build the stove facing east and use reed firewood for boiling.
Prescription for fetus dying in the uterus:
Processed Pearl (Zhenzhu), one liang; Bark of Elm White Layer (Yubai Pi), sliced, one sheng.
Take the above two ingredients with three sheng of vinegar (Ku Jiu), decoct until one sheng remains, administer all at once for immediate expulsion.
Prescription for fetus dying in the uterus failing to be expelled: Apply cow dung to the mother's abdomen for immediate expulsion.
Another prescription: Take three finger-pinches of Hearth Earth (Zaoxin Huangtu), take with wine for immediate expulsion. The earth should adhere to the head of the fetus; also treats malposition (nishi) and transverse position (hengsheng) where hands or feet appear first.
Another prescription: Boil two sheng of husband's urine and have the patient drink it.
Another prescription: Two sheng of vinegar, pry open the mouth and pour in.
Another prescription: Swallow fourteen Huai seeds (Huai Zi), also treats malposition.

Take the above two ingredients with five sheng of water, decoct until two sheng remain, administer all at once; if not expelled, decoct and administer again.
Prescription for sudden fetal death before full term failing to be expelled, causing the mother to desire suicide:
Decoct large soybeans (Dadou) strongly in vinegar (Ku Jiu); take one sheng per dose for immediate expulsion of the dead fetus. If unable to take all at once, divide into two doses.
Another method uses pure wine to decoct soybeans, also treating accumulations forming masses (Jia).
Prescription for fetal death in the uterus during pregnancy, where the placenta fails to be expelled after fetal death, causing abdominal pain radiating to the lower back:
