Another version omits Rhubarb Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang), Patrinia Herba (Baijiang), Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian), and Talcum (Tongcao), converting them into a powder taken with wine, one fangcun bi (a measure for powder).

For mastitis lasting two to three hundred days, unresponsive to various treatments, presenting as hard and purple, use the method of warming with green willow root:
Peel the outer bark of willow roots, pound until soft, heat until warm, place in a silk bag, and apply as a compress to the breast. Replace when dry; healing occurs within one night.
Prescription for nursing engorgement (Du Ru) and mastitis swelling:
Take two wooden pestles used for pounding rice, heat them by roasting, wrap the breast with cotton wadding and old cloth, and alternately press with the heated pestles until healed. This method has been proven effective immediately.

Place vinegar and rice-washing water in a clay pot. Heat stones until red-hot and drop them into the pot until boiling. Repeat this process. When the water cools slightly, soak the breast in it. Reheat the stones and soak again. No more than three cycles of heating stones are needed for healing.
