Formula for treating Wind-Stroke with numbness and inaction of the arms and hands, and deviation of the mouth and eyes:
Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus) (each 5 liang), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (each 6 liang).
Process the above six herbs by grinding and sieving. Take one fangcun bi (a square-inch measure) with wine, three times a day, gradually increasing the dose.
Formula for treating Pi Feng (Hemiplegia/Wind-stroke) persisting for years without recovery, characterized withered and thin limbs, deviation of the face and mouth, unsettled spirit, and disordered speech:
Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (each 1 liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (2 liang), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Cizi (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix) (each 2 pieces), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix) (each 3 liang), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Fushen (Poria cum Radix Pini) (each 4 liang), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) (each 1 liang), Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (each 1.5 liang), Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos) (1 sheng), Danzhuli (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia Succus) (4 sheng).
Chop the above twenty-one herbs. Boil in 1 dou (10 sheng) of water. First, boil Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) to remove the foam, retaining 7 sheng of liquid. Add Danzhuli (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia Succus) and the remaining herbs. Boil until 3 sheng remains. Divide into four doses. After taking three doses, wait until after consuming a bowl of porridge, then take the next dose. Wait for the medicinal effect to induce spontaneous sweating. Avoid wind and cold; abstain from vinegar, garlic, wheat products, dairy, and fish.
Formula for treating Wind-Stroke causing traction and deviation of the eyes and face, mouth deviating towards the ear, tightness of the jaw muscles, and inability to move the tongue:
Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) (3 liang), Shengdihuang Zhi (Rehmanniae Radix Juice), Zhuli (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia Succus) (each 1 sheng).
Combine the above three ingredients and decoct. Obtain 1 sheng of liquid and take it all at once for immediate recovery.
Another formula: Muli (Ostreae Concha), Fanshi (Alumen), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Zaoxia Huangtu (Cochlearis Terra) (equal parts).
Grind the above four herbs into powder. Mix with the blood of a rooster's comb from a three-year-old male chicken. Apply the mixture to the affected side. Observe with a mirror. Wash off immediately as soon as symmetry is restored. If not washed off quickly, over-correction may occur and become irreversible. (Note from *Qianjin Yifang*: Apply to the left side if deviation is to the right, and to the right side if deviation is to the left.)
Another formula: Zhuli (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia Succus) (3 sheng), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (each 2 liang), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) (4 liang), Lingyangjiao (Saigae Tataricae Cornu) (3 liang).
Chop the above eight herbs. Combine with 4 sheng of water and Zhuli (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia Succus). Decoct to obtain 1.5 sheng. Divide into three doses. Take one dose daily. This is effective for long-term use.
Formula for treating deviation of the mouth and eyes:
Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) (each 2 liang), Baishi (Platycladi Semen), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) (each 3 liang), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (each 4 liang), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) (30 seeds).
Chop the above eight herbs. Boil in 1 dou of water and 2 sheng of wine until 3 sheng remains. Divide into four doses.
Another formula: Qingsongye (Pinus Massoniana Leaf) (1 jin), crush to extract juice. Soak in 1 dou of wine for two nights. Then heat near fire for one night. Initial dose: half sheng. Gradually increase to one sheng. Stop when sweating appears on the head and face.
Another formula: Boil Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus) in wine to extract the juice. Soak an old cloth in the juice and apply it to the affected area. If the face deviates to the left, apply to the right; if to the right, apply to the left. This is a secret formula not widely transmitted, but I have used it frequently with great efficacy.
Formula for treating sudden onset of Wind-Stroke with persistent deviation of the mouth and eyes:
Take Kongqingmo (Azurite Powder) the size of a bean. Hold it in the mouth for immediate recovery.
Another formula: Stir-fry 3 sheng of soybeans until charred. Pour 3 sheng of wine over them to extract the juice. Take the juice all at once. (Note from *Zhouhou Beiji Fang*: Used for trismus/jaw lock.)
Another formula: Da Zaojie (Claviceps Purpurea / or specifically large soapberry pod, typically *Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus* in this context implies the pod/fruit body, often translated as Gleditsiae Fructus or similar depending on specific historical interpretation, here literal "Large Soap Pod" refers to *Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus* processed) 1 liang, remove skin and seeds, sieve. Mix with three-year-old mature vinegar. Apply to the opposite side: left deviation applied to right, right deviation applied to left. Reapply when dry.
Another formula: Use a reed tube 5 cun long. Insert one end into the ear canal of the healthy side. Seal the surrounding area tightly with dough to prevent air leakage. Place one soybean at the other end. Burn moxa (Ai Ye) on the soybean. Perform seven moxibustion cones (zhuang). Recovery will follow. Treat the left side for right-sided lesions, and the right side for left-sided lesions. Ear diseases can also be treated with moxibustion.
Another formula: Moxibustion on the hand crossing pulse (Shoujiaomai - likely referring to intersection points or specific acupuncture points like Hegu or related areas, literally "Hand Crossing Pulse") for three cones. Treat the left side for right-sided lesions, and the right side for left-sided lesions. The moxa cone should be shaped like a rat droppings, placed horizontally, with fire applied to both ends.
