Formulas for conditions where various medicines fail to cure.
Scrape the green skin of Zhi Shi (Immature Bitter Orange) to obtain powder; stop when reaching the heart, yielding five sheng of dregs. Stir-fry the dregs over low heat to remove moisture, soak in one dou of wine, warm slightly over low heat to extract the medicinal flavor, and drink according to the patient's tolerance. This is highly effective for facial paralysis with eye retraction. It is also suitable for treating slow wind and acute wind. (The *Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang* uses it to treat stiffness preventing flexion, extension, or turning; bark of Zhi tree is also acceptable.)
(Six formulas)
A formula to treat sudden hemiplegia, spasticity and inability to flex or extend limbs, cold body, confusion or dementia, rigidity with muteness, varying states of life and death, incoherent speech, opisthotonos, appetite fluctuations, or difficulty in urination and defecation: (Named "Ba Feng Xu Ming Tang" in *Gu Jin Lu Yan*)

Chop the above nine ingredients. Decoct in nine sheng of well water drawn at dawn until three sheng remain. Divide into three doses, taken three times a day. Cover the patient to induce sweating. If no sweat occurs, add Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba) five liang and decoct together.

If the mouth cannot open, pry it open and administer the decoction. After one dose, consciousness should return; after two doses, slight sweating; after three doses, profuse sweating.
Another formula: Decoct two jin of Jiao (Colla Corii Asini) in one dou of wine until dissolved, obtaining six sheng. Take one sheng per dose, gradually continuing until recovery.
