For all types of carbuncles and swellings, this prescription may be used for treatment.
*Ostreae Concha* (nine *liang*, soft and crumbling texture) *Spathosum* (Calcitriol), *Lycii Cortex* (Cortex Lycii Chinensis), *Albae Silicis Quartzum* (one *liang*), *Platycodonis Radix* (one and a half *liang*), *Jiangshi* (Ginger Stone, one *jin*, soft and yellow in color).
The above six medicinal materials are each crushed, sifted through fine silk gauze, mixed together, and blended uniformly. First, take nine *sheng* of *Fulonggan* (Zao Xin Tu, Calcined Centrifuged Soil) and grind it into powder. Stir with twelve *dou* of clear wine until turbid, then allow to settle and clarify. Take two *sheng* of the clarified liquid and mix it with the herbal powder. Roll the mixture into cakes, with a diameter of six *fen* and a thickness of two *fen*. The remaining dregs are kept in the basin. Place the cakes on a steamer rack. Cover the basin opening with a sheet of paper and steam the cakes using the vapor of the wine. Stir frequently during the process to allow the vapors to dissipate. After half a day, when the herbal cakes are dry, place them into a ceramic jar. Line the jar with layers of paper and herbal material, ensuring they do not touch each other. Seal the jar mouth tightly with mud for three days and nights (three cycles of seven days). Once dried, store in a paper bag in a dry place.
Usage: Use a needle to puncture the center of the lesion, penetrating deeply to the root of the sore, and also puncture the surrounding areas to induce bleeding. Scrape off a quantity of the medicine equivalent to a soybean and apply it onto the wound. If the condition is severe and debilitating, apply three to four times daily; if mild, apply once or twice daily. For severe cases, continue application for two days until the root necroses and discharges. For mild cases, necrosis and discharge occur within half a day to one day. Observe whether the lesion becomes raised, which indicates that the root is being expelled. If the root has already been expelled and necrosed, do not discontinue the medication; continue application. This medicine is very safe and effective, promoting tissue regeneration and healing. If the disease is located in the oral cavity, pharynx, or chest and abdomen, there will necessarily be abnormal swelling externally. If experiencing chills and fever without relief, suspecting this disease, mix the medicine with drinking water or clear water, taking an amount equivalent to two almond seeds orally, three to four times a day. The lesion will naturally soften and disintegrate, or the root can be exposed by picking, leading to recovery. Observe the patient's spirit and mental clarity.
The optimal dates for compounding the medicine are the fifth day of the fifth lunar month (best), the seventh day of the seventh lunar month (second best), the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, or the Laba Festival (the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month). If urgent use is required, other days are also acceptable. The preparation must be conducted in a clean environment with incense burned for purification. Avoid contact with filth. Do not allow mourners, individuals with physical disabilities, postpartum women, livestock, chickens, or dogs to witness the process. Patients suffering from this condition must abstain from sexual intercourse, pork, beef, chicken, fish, raw garlic, scallions, onions, rapeseed, cilantro, sunflower greens, alcohol, vinegar, and wheat flour products. If the condition recurs due to violating these taboos, take the medicine mixed with decoction of *Lycii Cortex* (Lycium Root Bark), following the method described in the subsequent formula. These two formulas originate from the same source; wise commentators regard the latter formula as the most authentic version.
