My friend has decided to have a child and has therefore discontinued all Western medicines. Since more than ten days have passed, I am re-filling the consultation form as follows:
1. Please fill in the following items in detail—
Gender: Female
Age: 24
Marital Status: Married
Height: 1.62 m
Weight: 44.5 kg
Skin Color: White
Native Place: Chengdu, Sichuan
Main Symptoms: Dizziness (Xuan Yun), nausea, vomiting, bleeding gums, chest tightness (Xiong Men).
History of Onset: After catching a cold in September last year, she felt chest tightness and dizziness. Blood tests at the hospital showed high blood counts, with white blood cells exceeding 30,000. Intravenous infusion (of antibiotics such as Ofloxacin) showed no improvement. One week later, she was transferred to another hospital for bone marrow aspiration and chromosomal analysis. The bone marrow aspiration result showed active immature cells, raising suspicion of leukemia. Chromosomal analysis was negative. Subsequent fusion gene testing confirmed Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (Chronic Granulocytic Leukemia). Chemotherapy with Hydroxyurea began in December. Thereafter, white blood cell counts remained around or below 10,000. General condition was acceptable, with occasional dizziness and fatigue. She is now 80 days pregnant, with poor physical strength; pregnancy reactions persist, including frequent nausea and chest tightness. For the past two months, when temperatures dropped, she experienced breathlessness and respiratory distress, requiring deep sighing.
Western Medical Diagnosis: Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
Facial Complexion: Pale, lusterless
Eye Signs: Iris color gray, sclera bluish, blood vessels visible, dark circles under eyes
Tongue Signs: Slippery and moist coating, thin white fur, distended sublingual veins
Pulse: Left: Weak; Right: Weak
2. Select symptoms present in the following body parts—
Mouth: Tasteless
Chest: Tightness, Heat sensation
Heart: Heat sensation
Stomach: Occasional pain
Head: Dizziness, Heaviness
Hands: Heat sensation, Sweating
Waist: Soreness (both sides)
3. Select corresponding physical conditions for the following items—
Drinking: Little intake, prefers cool/hot/sour/spicy foods
Eating: Little intake, prefers noodles/congee
Sleep: Occasional insomnia
Stool: Wet/damp consistency, greenish color, once daily
Urine: Scanty, slightly yellow, infrequent
Menstruation: Normal before pregnancy
Leukorrhea: Profuse, white
4. Answer which of the following symptoms occur frequently—
Subjective feeling of body heat, shortness of breath, nausea, bleeding gums, fatigue and lassitude, occasional heavy head/light feet, lethargy, occasional alternating chills and fever, fatigue upon standing.

Teacher Sanqisheng, hello! I have a few unclear points and hope for your guidance:
1. Does 21 doses equal 21 prescriptions?
2. Is the above prescription for one dose?
3. Should all 21 doses be taken according to the above dosage?
4. If there are changes in the middle stage, should the formula not be changed or the dosage reduced?
5. Before pregnancy, there were no obvious physical symptoms, so some current changes should be normal reactions.
6. Finally, I hope to control the disease with Chinese herbal medicine. Only on this basis can I ensure the baby's safety, while also preserving the fetus (Bao Tai).
Awaiting your reply.

Hello Teacher Sanqisheng. Ten days ago, I stopped Western medicine and switched to Chinese herbal medicine. However, within just ten days, the white blood cell count rose from 10,000 to 16,000, and lymphocytes were also elevated. The normal range for white blood cells is 4,000 to 10,000. Can Chinese herbal medicine control the rise in white blood cells? Or what measures should I take now? I hope for your guidance.
Sanqisheng
May 26, 2004, 6:35 PM
First, one must understand why white blood cells increase. White blood cells are the body's defense force. According to Western medical theory, they only increase when external pathogens invade internally. That is to say, white blood cells represent the immune system temporarily mobilizing defensive capabilities to resist pathogenic factors (Note: not viruses, which are visible; this pathogenic factor is Cold [Han], an invisible substance, thus not visible under a microscope). This represents the righteous Qi (Zheng Qi) resisting pathogens. Western medicine defines leukemia as abnormal proliferation of white blood cells, i.e., unexplained abnormal proliferation without bacterial or viral infection, and the etiology remains unknown. Therefore, Western medicine defines the symptom as abnormal white blood cell proliferation, and the symptomatic treatment is to kill excess white blood cells to bring indicators close to normal (this approach is somewhat akin to straightening a crooked back by force).
However, if one understands that this disease is caused by internal invasion of Cold pathogens, it becomes easy to see that Western medicine's so-called treatment is actually aiding the villain by attacking the righteous ("releasing pathogens and attacking Zheng Qi"). Ignoring the evident Cold pathogen (clearly observed through the Four Diagnostic Methods) and instead slaughtering the white blood cells that resist the Cold invasion is akin to a traitor assisting invaders to suppress people's resistance.
After understanding this principle, let us look at the mechanism of Chinese herbal medicine: Chinese herbs do not aim to control the rise in white blood cells but to fundamentally eliminate invading pathogens. The short-term rise in white blood cells can be viewed as an enhancement of the body's anti-pathogen power (similar to the strengthening of the Anti-Japanese forces). Once pathogens are eradicated, white blood cell counts will naturally return to the normal range (similar to soldiers demobilizing after the war ends). This is the principle of treating diseases with Chinese herbs that support righteousness and resist pathogens.
The principles, medications, and efficacy differ between Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western medicine. Extensive evidence proves that the method Western medicine adopts for treating blood diseases leads patients to lose both health and wealth—a dead end. The TCM community has also fallen into therapeutic误区 (misunderstandings) guided by erroneous theories. How to correctly treat this disease under correct theoretical guidance is not only a major topic for the medical community but also an issue that many leukemia patients should pay attention to.

Teacher Sanqi, hello.
I stopped Western medicine and switched to Chinese herbal medicine on May 1st. It has been a month, but I only learned today that for the past month, the TCM treatment focused solely on preserving the fetus rather than treating the disease. For half a year, my gums have been bleeding constantly, especially frequently recently. I always feel fatigued. Today at noon, I fainted for the first time, sleeping on the street for a few minutes. I also had a complete blood count (CBC) test today, showing several abnormal indicators: White Blood Cells 17.6 (Reference: 4.0-10); Lymphocyte Percentage 0.127 (Reference: 0.25-0.40); Monocyte Count 2.2 (Reference: 1.0-1.7); RBC Mean Hb Content 27.5 (Reference: 28.6-35.0); RBC Mean Hb Concentration 294 (Reference: 320-360); NEUT% 0.758 (Reference: 0.50-0.70); NEUT# 13.2 (Reference: 2.1-7.0). Seven abnormal indicators cannot be controlled. What should I do now, Teacher Sanqi?

I told everything to the TCM doctor treating me, but he said it was a normal reaction and nothing to worry about, starting to treat the disease from today. Teacher Sanqi, hello! Before pregnancy, I only had occasional gum bleeding and slightly high blood counts, with no other symptoms. But since becoming pregnant, my gums have bled heavily almost every day, accompanied by coagulation phenomena, especially obvious right after waking up in the morning. Due to staying still all night, blood circulation was impaired, leading to blood coagulation and coma. Because I stopped Western medicine for too long, blood counts gradually rose. Experts at West China Hospital told me that continuing to rise like this might make it hard to survive even half a year. If what he says is true, what about my child? I hope you can help me think of a solution!

Sir, hello! Based on the current situation, I checked blood counts and prothrombin time separately. The report shows the coagulation system is normal, but the blood routine is severely out of range. White Blood Cell Count 21.8 (Normal Range: 4.0-10.0); Lymphocyte Percentage 0.108 (Normal Range: 0.25-0.40); Neutrophil Percentage 0.794 (Normal Range: 0.50-0.70); Monocyte Count 2.1 (Normal Range: 1.0-1.7); Neutrophil Count 17.3 (Normal Range: 2.1-7.0); RBC Mean Hb Content 27.6 (Normal Range: 28.6-35.0); RBC Mean Hb Concentration 291 (Normal Range: 320-360); RBC Volume Distribution Width 0.143 (Normal Range: 0.11-0.14). Out of fifteen indicators in the blood routine, eight of them are abnormal in my case. When I went to the hospital for examination, I first felt nauseous, then my vision became blurry, and tinnitus occurred. Then I wanted to sleep. As I was about to enter a comatose state, I exerted all my strength to stand up to avoid falling. Fortunately, after about two minutes, blood circulation normalized, and I felt better. This is the second occurrence; the first time was when I fainted and fell into a coma last time. I often feel body heat now, especially in the head. My limbs feel soft, and I don't want to walk; I always feel extremely tired. Should I adjust the medication? I have already taken ten doses of your prescription.

There are nine abnormal indicators above. The heart heat and head heat phenomena that often occurred recently have disappeared. In the past few days, except for gum bleeding and slight hypoglycemia, there are no other abnormal phenomena or sensations. Finally, I want to know if there are any dietary precautions?

Mr. Sanqi, hello! I am very glad to achieve such good results through your treatment. On behalf of myself and my unborn child, I thank you. According to current indicators, I seem to have a bit of anemia. Please bestow a prescription, Sir.

Very good! The pathogen has retreated, but righteousness is still deficient. Perseverance can carve metal and stone. Continue taking the previous prescription for seven doses, usage unchanged.

Avoid cold and greasy foods. Rest well at night; do not stay up late.
Pay attention to rest usually: Nourish Qi through silence, nourish Blood through darkness/rest, nourish Essence through sleep, nourish Shen (Spirit) through tranquility.

Mr. Sanqi, hello! I saw a TCM doctor today. The diagnosis was as follows: Pulse: Vertiginous and Rapid; Tongue Coating: Thin White; Tongue Body: Red. An old TCM doctor said that based on this and my complexion, it shouldn't be leukemia; he suspects hyperthyroidism (Jia Kang).

Leukemia is a Western medical term, diagnosed based on Western laboratory indicators. TCM does not have grounds to judge whether it is leukemia based on complexion alone. Similarly, hyperthyroidism is also based on Western diagnosis and is not a TCM disease name. Such suspicion is unreliable. Therefore, this statement has little reference value. The provided pulse image indicates deficiency of Qi and Blood.

Mr. Sanqi, hello! Do I need to eat more blood-nourishing foods now, such as red algae, leeks, etc.? I have always had a bit of anorexia; for example, I don't like eating eggs, pork, milk, and other foods.

Do not eat those things. Diet should be light; overly rich and cloying foods will affect the transportation and transformation of the Spleen and Stomach.
