Furthermore, the disease of Horse Epilepsy (Ma Xian) manifests as opening the mouth and shaking the head, making horse-like cries, and the body attempting to arch backward. (Treatment: Moxibustion at Fengfu (GV16) on the neck and Zhongwan (CV12) in the umbilicus, three moxa cones each; if the pathology is in the abdomen, burn horse hooves into powder and ingest.)

The disease of Ox Epilepsy (Niu Xian) manifests as eyes staring straight ahead without movement and abdominal distension. (Treatment: Moxibustion above Jiwei (CV15) and Dazhui (GV14), three moxa cones each; burn ox hooves into ash/powder and ingest.)

The disease of Chicken Epilepsy (Ji Xian) manifests as stretching the neck, arching the body backward, susceptibility to fright, and spontaneous trembling. (Treatment: Moxibustion on various Yang meridians of the foot, three moxa cones each.)

The disease of Sheep Epilepsy (Yang Xian) manifests as a tendency to widen the eyes and protrude the tongue. (Treatment: Moxibustion above Dazhui (GV14), three moxa cones.)

The disease of Pig Epilepsy (Zhu Xian) manifests as a tendency to salivate excessively. (Treatment: Moxibustion one cun lateral to both sides of Wangu (GB7), seven moxa cones each.)

The disease of Dog Epilepsy (Gou Xian) manifests as flexion and spasm of the hands. (Treatment: Moxibustion on the center of both palms, one cone each; on the Taiyang bladder meridian points of the feet, one cone each; on the points Luhu (EX-UE9) and Liaotou (EX-UE10), one cone each; this method is effective.)

Regarding conditions involving general extension rigidity (Fan Zhang): If an adult can fit a hand sideways below the spine, or a child can fit three fingers' width, the condition is incurable. Additionally, if the eyes roll upward with pupil movement, Moxibustion at Xinzho (Ex-HN17) should be performed. The method for locating this point is: measure horizontally across the mouth from corner to corner, then measure horizontally across the nose from side to side. Take half of the nasal width and add it to the mouth width. Measure this total distance upward from the hairline of the forehead. The endpoint of this measurement is the target. This spot lies exactly above the fontanelle, in the unfused bone area where movement can be felt with the finger; this is the most critical point. Next, moxibustion is applied approximately two fen above the hairline on the forehead, aligned vertically with the nose. Next, moxibustion is applied on both sides, two fen above the hairline directly above the pupils. Next, moxibustion is applied at the center of the vertex hair whorl. Next, moxibustion is applied at Keyuren (ST7), located behind the eyebrow margin where the artery pulses. Next, moxibustion is applied at Ermen (TE21) bilaterally, in the depression that appears when the mouth opens and the jawbone moves. Next, another method involves rolling up the ear; for adults, measure three finger-widths above the ear; for children, use their own finger width. Next, moxibustion is applied over the blue veins above Wangu (GB7) behind both ears; alternatively, needle pricking to induce bleeding may be used. Next, moxibustion is applied at Yuzhen (BL9), on the prominent bone at the back of the neck. Next, moxibustion is applied at Fengchi (GB20) bilaterally, in the depression lateral to the sternocleidomastoid muscle at the hairline. Next, moxibustion is applied at Fengfu (GV16). In total, there are twenty-nine points on the head and neck. For infants ten days old, three cones are used; for thirty days, five cones; for fifty days, seven cones. Severe cases require all points to be treated; mild cases only require Xinzho, Fengchi, and Yuzhen. The mugwort must be aged (shu), and the moxa cone must be flat and make full contact with the skin so that the heat reaches the pathological site. If the mugwort is fresh or the cone is uneven and does not touch the skin thoroughly, many cones will be of no benefit.

If there is abdominal fullness, shortness of breath, and borborygmus (intestinal rumbling): Moxibustion is applied at Feimu (BL13), located in the depression between the second intercostal space above both nipples, located using a vertical plumb line aligned with the pupil. Next, Moxibustion at Danzhong (CV17). Next, Moxibustion at Xiong tang (EX-CE2). Next, Moxibustion at Qizhong (CV8). Next, Moxibustion at Bixi (EX-UE11), located in the depression between the first intercostal space below both nipples. Next, Moxibustion at Juque (CV14); for adults, it is one cun below Jiwei (CV15); for children, it is six fen from the umbilicus or one cun below Jiwei towards the heart; treat both sides. Next, Moxibustion at Weiguan (CV12). There are twelve points in the upper abdomen (Xiong tang, Juque, Weiguan). For ten-day-old infants, three cones are used; for those over one month, five cones; for the perineum, three cones. Some say the number of cones should correspond to the child's age.

If there is spinal stiffness and opisthotonos (body arching backward): Moxibustion is applied at Dazhui (GV14) and the Shu points of all Zang organs, as well as along the Du vessel on the spine. Locate the center from Dazhui down to the coccyx. With the patient bending forward, measure again from Dazhui down; the endpoint is on the Du vessel. There are twelve points on the upper back. For ten-day-old infants, three cones are used; for those over one month, five cones.

If there are spasms and convulsions of the hands and feet: Moxibustion at Chize (LU5). Next, Yangming meridian points. Next, Shaoshang (LU11). Next, Laogong (PC8). Next, Xin Zhu (Neiguan PC6). Next, Hegu (LI4). Next, Sanjian (LI3). Next, Shaoyang meridian points. There are sixteen points on the upper limbs; the key ones are Yangming, Shaoyang, Xin Zhu, Chize, Hegu, and Shaoshang. The number of cones is as described above.

Next, Futu (ST32). Next, Zusanli (ST36). Next, Feichang (BL57). Next, Luxi (EX-LE8). Next, Yangming meridian points. Next, Shaoyang meridian points. Next, Ran Gu (KI2). There are fourteen points on the lower limbs, all important, treated with the same number of cones as above. The Yangming points on hands and feet correspond to four finger-widths. All these points are moxibusted for pediatric epilepsy. If wind pathogen causes severe agitation and limb spasms, moxibustion should be applied to the tips of all ten fingers and the joints proximal to them.

It is further stated: If the family reports the onset immediately, the physician can examine and diagnose, establishing a treatment protocol in sequence. Following this order ensures recovery. If the patient has already undergone disordered treatments, the disease cannot be controlled, and symptoms may change, making it difficult for subsequent physicians to understand the original excess/deficiency patterns. Treating based solely on changed symptoms will likely fail. One must carefully inquire about previous treatments. If a previous physician had a coherent plan, continue that trajectory to avoid contradicting medical principles. If a previous prescription required multiple doses to cure, but the family stopped after one or two doses due to lack of immediate effect and sought another doctor, the new doctor must understand the previous thermal/cold management sequence. Disregarding the previous regimen may lead to death. If the previous physician used purgatives, the successor must follow with gentle/regulating methods to achieve cure. If the previous physician did not purge, or failed to remove pathogens, or mismanaged cold/heat therapy, the successor must regulate. These are "failed" cases requiring expert intervention to avoid worsening. Failure to follow sequence and observe details leads to deterioration.

Yinyu Wan (Cactus Fruit Pill) treats pediatric wind-epilepsy and rashes persisting into adulthood. Ingredients: Zhi Yin Yu (Processed Cactus Fruit), Pao Qiandan (Calcined Lead Tetroxide), Zhi Gouteng (Processed Uncaria Rhynchophylla), Duheng (Duheng Root), Fangkui (Fangkui Root), Yan Shigao (Ground Gypsum), Ge Gen (Kudzu Root) - 4 fen each; Changpu (Acorus Tatarinowii), Huangqin (Scutellaria Baicalensis) - 6 fen each; Songluo (Usnea Diffusa) - 2 fen; Qianglang (Dung Beetle) - 10 roasted specimens; Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) - 14 fen. Twelve ingredients are ground and sifted, formed into pills the size of small beans. Children under 3 years take 5 pills; over 3 years, 7 pills; over 5 years, 10 pills; 10 years old, up to 15 pills, adjusted by size. *Shennong Ben Cao Jing* states there are 120 types of pediatric epileptic seizures. Their symptoms differ slightly from normal, constituting epilepsy. At birth, blood vessels are not consolidated, and internal organs are immature; slight improper care leads to disease. After the physiological changes of "Jing Zheng" (meridian transformation), illness may occur; generally mild except for sudden Wind Stroke.

If a child has poor limb movement, convulsions, and slight respiratory abnormalities, epilepsy may develop.

If a child refuses breastfeeding, administer Zi Wan (Purple Pill) to purge. Newborns have strong vital energy; mild discomfort requires purging without harm, leading to deep healing benefits. If "Jing Zheng" periods pass without resolution, Longdan Tang (Gentian Decoction) is indicated (formula found under Ke Wu section). Delayed purging leads to severe, hard-to-treat illness. Among purgatives, Siwei Zi Wan (Four-Ingredient Purple Pill) is best; it clears disease without damaging the person. If Siwei Zi Wan fails, use Chi Wan (Red Pill); if that fails, double the dose. If purging leaves residual heat, prepare Longdan Tang and administer gradually. Apply Chiga (Red Ointment). For Wind Epilepsy, purge first, then administer Zhu Xin Tang (Pig Heart Decoction). For Fear Epilepsy, follow acupuncture diagrams and apply ointment; do not purge heavily. Why? Fear Epilepsy involves unstable Heart Qi; purging causes internal deficiency, worsening the condition. Severe Fear Epilepsy is difficult to treat. When raising children, prevent fright; avoid loud noises. Hold them gently to avoid fear. During thunderstorms, cover the child's ears and make soft noises to distract.

Raising children involves mild stimulation to nourish blood vessels, but avoid severe fright. If severe fright occurs, moxibustion on Jing Mai (Fear Meridian) is indicated. For infants 50-60 days old, severe fright may worsen; for infants over 100 days, moxibustion on Jing Mai is beneficial.

Formula for clearing heat from the chest and abdomen in young children: Danshen Chiga (Salvia Red Ointment). Ingredients: Danshen (Salvia Miltiorrhiza), Leiwan (Polyporus Umbellatus), Mangxiao (Mirabilite), Rongyan (Rock Salt), Dahuang (Rhubarb Root) - 3 liang each. Five ingredients are cut. Four are soaked in Ban Sheng of Ku Jiu (Bitter Vinegar) overnight. Then simmer in 1 Jin of refined lard, lifting and lowering three times. Strain and add Mangxiao. Once the ointment forms, rub it on the chest. Suitable for winter and summer; Danshen and Leiwan are also good. (From Volume 5).

*Qianjin Yi* states pediatric epilepsy has three types: Wind Epilepsy, Fear Epilepsy, and Food Epilepsy. Wind and Fear types are common; Food Epilepsy is rare (less than 1 in 10). Preceded by chills then fever indicates Food Epilepsy. Fear Epilepsy is treated with acupuncture/moxibustion per diagrams. Wind Epilepsy is treated with Tun Xin Tang (Pig Heart Decoction) to purge. Food Epilepsy requires purging to cure; Zi Wan is excellent. Wind enters because warm clothing causes sweating. Wind Epilepsy begins with finger counting movements before onset. Fear Epilepsy starts with crying due to fright. Mild Fear Epilepsy resolves quickly if not frightened again. Food Epilepsy follows refusal to nurse, vomiting, heat, then seizure. Early treatment cures.

Thin clothing causes indigestion and sour-smelling stool, indicating early Pi (accumulation). Treat mildly with Zi Wan.

Children are less afraid of winter illnesses but harder to cure in summer. Purging is necessary. Abdominal blooming may occur, so regulate feeding. Use Zi Wan for several days, then resume feeding with regular amounts. Increase amount as child grows. Decreased appetite indicates minor disharmony; give mild medicine, stop feeding, offer milk only. Severe cases last 10 days, mild 5-6 days, then feeding returns to normal. Refusal to nurse but desire to suck indicates Pi; purging is essential for cure. Without purging, chills/fever, vomiting with epilepsy, or dysentery may result.

Heat, refusal to nurse, restlessness, and frequent fright indicate early epilepsy. Zi Wan cures it; repeat if necessary. After Li Xia (Start of Summer), avoid reckless moxibustion. Do not purge; bathe in Chu Re Tang (Clear Heat Decoction), dust with Chu Re San (Clear Heat Powder), and rub with Chu Re Chi Gao (Clear Heat Red Ointment), plus umbilical application.

Yellow, foul-smelling stool indicates abdominal heat; mildly administer Longdan Tang. White, sour stool indicates cold indigestion; administer Zi Wan. Mild cases reduce dosage for internal resolution; severe cases increase slightly for mild purging. Regulate feeding for several days to harmonize Stomach Qi. Failure to regulate worsens disease.
