Guangji (Broad Relief) formula for treating Shàngqì (rebellious Qi), lung-heat cough, and excessive nasal discharge and saliva.
Qianqian (Caulis Polygoni Multiflori), raw Maimendong (Radix Ophiopogonis, 10 fen, heart removed), Beimu (Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Radix Glycyrrhizae), Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae), Shengjiang (Fresh Rhizoma Zingiberis) (each 4 fen). [Note: The character "Huang" appears isolated in the source text, likely indicating a missing herb name such as Huangqin or Huangqi, but translated literally as present.]
The above eleven medicinal materials are cut, boiled in seven sheng of water until reduced to two sheng and seven he, strained to remove dregs, mixed with white honey, and boiled again over fire for three boils. Divide into three warm doses. Each dose is taken at intervals corresponding to walking five or six li; [text implies a specific reaction or dosage instruction "xu li san liang xing", literally "must benefit three liang walk", likely a textual corruption, interpreted here as requiring a prompt effect or specific movement]. After the decoction is prepared, it is advisable to add Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) 8 fen. Avoid hot noodles, roasted meat, greasy foods, vinegar, food [generic term], kelp, and Songcai (Chinese cabbage). (From Volume II)
Gujin Luyan (Records of Ancient and Modern Verified Cases) Xiao Ziwan Wan (Small Astelia Pill) for treating Shàngqì (rebellious Qi), nighttime cough with inverted Qi, and excessive turbid saliva.
Ganjiang (Dried Rhizoma Zingiberis), Ganpi (Bark of Sweet Cherry Tree, alternatively Gancao/Radix Glycyrrhizae), Xixin (Herba Asari), Kuandonghua (Flos Farfarae), Ziwan (Radix Asteris) (each 3 fen), Fuzi (Prepared Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata) (2 pieces, processed).
The above six medicinal materials are pounded and sifted, mixed with honey to form pills the size of wu zi (seeds of Cerasus pseudocerasus). Take three pills before meals, twice daily, adjusting until therapeutic effect is achieved. Avoid cold water, pork, raw vegetables, etc.
Another formula for treating cough with rebellious Qi and excessive nasal discharge and saliva: Xingren Jian (Apricot Kernel Decoction). (From Xu Wang's formulas)
Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum) (1 sheng).
The above single medicinal material is crushed, ground to extract three da sheng of juice, diluted with water, ground again, and boiled down to one da sheng. Take one spoonful with wine, three times daily. Avoid pork, chicken, fish, meat, and Huy sui (Coriandrum sativum). (All from Volume XIX)
Gujin Luyan (Records of Ancient and Modern Verified Cases) for treating cough with inverted Qi and Shàngqì (rebellious Qi), chest fullness, and excessive saliva. (Written by Imperial Physician Ling Wang Shuhe, previously used by the Emperor, very effective, a verified formula)
Ganjiang (Dried Rhizoma Zingiberis) (3 fen), Shi (Stone [likely Gypsum or similar mineral wrapped in mud], 1 fen, wrapped in mud, burned for half a day), Shujiao (Pericarpium Zanthoxyli) (5 fen, sweat extracted), Xixin (Herba Asari) (2 fen), Wutou (Radix Aconiti Carminati) (1 fen, processed, skin removed), Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum) (1 fen), Wuzhuyu (Fructus Evodiae) (4 fen, washed), Changpu (Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii) (1 fen), Ziwan (Radix Asteris) (2 fen), Zhaojia (Fructus Gleditsiae Sinensis) (1 fen, skin and seeds removed, roasted). [Note: The character "Kuan" appears isolated, likely a fragment of Kuandonghua, but the count says 12 ingredients while only ~10 are listed clearly plus fragments. Translated literally.]
The above twelve medicinal materials are pounded and sifted, mixed with honey to form pills the size of wu zi. Swallow one pill when going to bed at night, twice daily. If ineffective, increase the dose. Treats twenty-year chronic cough; no more than twenty pills are needed for recovery. This is an imperial medicine, kept secret in the stone chamber and not transmitted. Avoid pork, mutton, maltose, raw vegetables, and cold water. (Another version contains Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi) 3 fen, without Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba); Qianjin Fang agrees. From Volume XIX)
