瘥,
The *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* (Emergency Prescriptions Kept in the Sleeve) records "Fu Dan" (夫丹), which refers to malignant toxic qi. Its color varies unpredictably among the five colors. If not treated immediately, the pain becomes unbearable; if delayed until the skin ulcerates, several sheng (a unit of volume) of pus and blood will flow out. This condition sometimes occurs at the joints and often leads to the necrosis of the four limbs; it belongs to the category of carbuncles (ju).
Boiled Chestnut: Use the spiny husks after washing them. (Yao Sengyuan holds the same view.)
Another prescription for treating Dan toxin on the ankle.
Crush garlic into a paste, apply it thickly to the affected area, and replace it when it dries. (From *Jiyan Fang*, *Wenzhong Beiji Fang*, both appearing in Volume 2.)
The *Duanju Fang* states that Dan toxin is also called "Tianhuo" (Heavenly Fire). Suddenly, the flesh exhibits a red color like cinnabar paint. The lesions can be as large as a palm, and in severe cases, they may cover the entire body, accompanied by slight swelling and pain/itching.
Red Adzuki Bean (1 sheng)
Grind the above single herb into powder and sift it. Mix with egg white to form a paste, apply to the affected area, and reapply when dry. It will gradually subside with hand movements. If covering the whole body, double the dosage. Continue until recovery. (Same as *Shanfan Fang* and *Qianjin Fang*.)
Another treatment for Dan toxin: Various single-herb prescriptions or monotherapy methods sometimes cure the disease using just one herb.
Hydrocharis mosses (Shuitai), Fresh Ophiopogon japonicus (Sheng Sheyan), Fresh Rehmannia glutinosa (Sheng Dihuang), Fresh Brassica chinensis leaves (Sheng Songye), Leaves of Datura metel (Shuo Bi Ye), Five-leaf Vine (Wuye Teng), Plantago asiatica (Shenhuo Cao), Duckweed (Fuping Cao), Fermented Soybean (Douchi), Rhubarb (Dahuang), Gardenia (Zhizi), Scutellaria baicalensis (Huangqin), Mirabilite (Mangxiao).
Of the above thirteen herbs, simply take any one, crush it, and apply it topically; the disease will heal. Alternatively, mix Red Adzuki Bean powder with egg white for application; if egg white is unavailable, water may be used. (Same as *Qianjin Fang*.)
Another prescription
Newly added Polygonum aviculare (Xinfu Lincao) (0.5 jin), Snake Slough (Yitiao), Honeycomb of Vespa (Lufengfang) (3 liang).
Take the above three ingredients (Note: Text says "two", but lists three), boil in ten dou of water until reduced to four sheng. Apply to the affected area using a cloth pad for washing/compressing. It dissipates instantly upon contact, showing miraculous efficacy. Having been effective over long-term use, it is attached here for transmission.
Another prescription
Boil millet to obtain a thick decoction, and use it to wash the affected area; this is excellent.
Another prescription
Collect feces from centipedes (Quyin), mix with water to form a paste, and apply to the affected area.
The *Qianjin Fang* discusses: Dan toxin is also called "Tianhuo." Suddenly, the flesh shows a red color like cinnabar paint. Large lesions are palm-sized, while severe ones cover the whole body, causing itching and slight swelling. There is also "White Dan," which presents as itchy and painful swelling in the flesh, resembling urticaria (wind rash). There is also "Chicken Comb Dan," which appears as red elevations, large as coins or small as hemp seeds, rough like a chicken comb, also known as Cornelian Cherry Fire Dan. There is also "Water Dan," caused by internal heat combining with dampness to form Dan toxin, presenting as shimmering yellow-red color, seemingly containing fluid, and preferring to occur on the abdomen and genital areas. Although this is a minor ailment, failure to treat it can lead to death. Treatment generally employs Shengma Gao (Cimicifuga Ointment).
Cimicifuga herba (Shengma), Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Baiwei), Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix (Loulu), Forsythiae Fructus (Lianqiao), Natrii Sulfas (Mangxiao) (each 2 liang), Scutellaria baicalensis (Huangqin), Ophiopogon japonicus (Sheyan), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhishi) (roasted, each 3 liang), Gardeniae Fructus (Zhizi) (20 pieces), Datura metel leaves (Shuo Bi) (4 liang).
Crush the above ten herbs finely. Soak in three sheng of water for half a day. Add five sheng of lard and decoct. Wait until the water evaporates completely, remove the dregs, and store in a dry container. Apply an appropriate amount externally. (Text fragment "Zhongbei" remains here as in original).
Another miraculous prescription for treating Dan toxin.
Crush Rapeseed greens (Yuntai) and Cornelian cherry fruits (Zhuyu) thoroughly, apply thickly to the affected area. It dissipates instantly. If residual heat persists, reapply. I, your subject, drank excessively in Neijiang County on March 8th of the 7th year of Zhenguan. During the night sleep, I felt pain in all four limbs' bones and muscles. By dawn, I suffered from headache and dizziness. A swelling the size of a marble appeared on the left corner of my forehead, so painful that it could not be touched. By noon, it had healed.
