According to the *Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold): In cases where the pulse at the Cun Kou position on the right hand, specifically anterior to the Guan position (Yang region), exhibits Yang deficiency, it indicates a disease of the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian. The patient suffers from wheezing in the chest, borborygmus (intestinal rumbling), thirst due to deficiency with dry lips, eye stiffness and susceptibility to fright, and white stools. This is termed "Large Intestine Deficiency-Cold" (Da Chang Xu Han).
Another prescription treats Large Intestine Deficiency-Cold, characterized by dysentery with green or white discharge and loud borborygmus following one another. The formula is named Huanglian Bu Tang (Coptis Decoction for Tonification).
Ingredients: Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis, 4 liang), Fuling (Poria, 4 liang), Xiong (Radix Chuanxiong, 3 liang), Vinegar-treated Pomegranate Peel (Pericarpium Granati, 4 pieces), Diyu (Herba Sanguisorbae, 5 liang), Fulonggan (Ligni Calcinalis, one piece the size of a chicken egg).
The above six herbs are chopped. Using seven sheng of water, boil the five herbs excluding Fulonggan until two sheng and five he remain. Strain out the dregs, add the powder of Fulonggan, stir well, and divide into three doses. Avoid pork, cold water, and excessive vinegar. (From Volume 18)
The *Shanfan Fang* records a treatment for Large Intestine Deficiency-Cold, presenting with yawning, cough, shortness of breath, and pain in the lower abdomen. The formula is named Kundonghua Wan (Saururus Pill).
Ingredients: Kundonghua (Flos Tussilaginis, 7 fen), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi, 6 fen), Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae, 6 fen), Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis, 5 fen), Xiong (Radix Chuanxiong, 5 fen), Zhigancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata, 5 fen), Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, 4 fen), Jiegeng (Radix Platycodi, 4 fen), Su Zi (Fructus Perillae, roasted, 5 he), Shujiao (Pericarpium Zanthoxyli, 1 sheng), Baibu Zhi (Succus Stemona, 7 he), Baimi (Mell, 1 sheng), Gancou Dazao (Fructus Jujubae, peeled, 50 pieces), Jiangzhi (Succus Zingiberis, 1 sheng).
The above fourteen herbs are finely pounded into powder. Mix with Jiangzhi and Baimi, and simmer over a mild fire to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take thirty pills per dose with warm wine, increasing to forty pills if necessary. Administer twice daily. Avoid Algae (Haizao), Brassica vegetables (Songcai), pork, cold water, and raw scallions. (From Volume 2)
The *Shanfan Fang* states: The Five Zang and Six Fu organs internally correspond to bone marrow and externally connect to the skin, hair, and flesh. If pathology arises from the exterior, it causes obstruction and stiffness in the skin, hair, and flesh; if pathology originates from the interior, it causes pain in the bone marrow. Therefore, regarding Yin-Yang, Exterior-Interior relationships, and the connection between outer skin and inner marrow, the sources of disease must be investigated in detail. Skin deficiency manifests as Cold, while Skin excess manifests as Heat. Generally, the indications of Skin deficiency and excess are governed by the Lung and Large Intestine. When disease manifests in the skin/hair, Heat corresponds to the Zang organs, and Cold corresponds to the Fu organs. (Consistent with *Qianjin Fang*, From Volume 3)
The *Qianjin Fang* records a treatment for Skin Deficiency, primarily addressing Large Intestine disease caused by Cold Qi obstruction. The formula is named Shuoduo Zheng Tang (Dioscorea Hypoglauca Steam Bath Decoction).
Ingredients: Shuoduo Genye (Herba et Radix Dioscoreae Hypoglauciae, chopped, 3 sheng), Taopiye (Cortex et Folium Persicae, crushed, 3 sheng), Changpu Ye (Folium Acori Tatarinowii, crushed, 3 sheng), Xifang (Fine Bran, 1 dou), Shumi (Frumentum Glutinosum Milii, 5 sheng).
The above five ingredients are boiled in fifteen dan of water until the rice is cooked. Place a large basin over the pot, set a small bamboo bed over the basin, and have the person sit on the bed. Shield the surroundings with mats to block wind, and cover the body with clothes and blankets. If shortness of breath occurs, open the vent to exhale. The goal is to induce sweating throughout the body, lasting approximately the time it takes to eat two meals, for three consecutive days. If the basin is not hot enough, place charcoal fire beneath it. This method not only treats Cold but also addresses all types of chronic cold conditions beneath the skin. Avoid mutton and malt sugar (Yitang). (Consistent with *Shanfan Fang*)
Another prescription treats Skin Excess, primarily addressing Lung disease caused by Heat Qi. The formula is named Zhizi Jian (Gardenia Decoction).
Ingredients: Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae), Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, prepared), Daqing (Radix Isatidis), Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum, remove double kernels, tips, and skins), Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, 3 liang each), Shengdihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Recens, chopped, 1 sheng), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 8 liang), Danzhuye (Folium Phyllostachydis Viridis, chopped, 1 sheng), Sheng Xuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae, 5 liang).
The above ten herbs are chopped. Boil in nine sheng of water until three sheng remain. Add Mangxiao, strain, and divide into three doses. Avoid Elaeagnus fruit (Wuyi). (Consistent with *Shanfan Fang*, both from Volume 18)
